One hundred thirty years of coal power & 95 years of hydroelectricity in Vietnam, but it still cannot be called "all-people energy."
In February 1894, the French built the Flower Garden Lamp House - Vietnam's first coal power plant in Hai Phong. The other two hydroelectric plants, Ta Sa and Na Ngan, were constructed in 1927-1928 during French colonial exploitation for the second time.
The source of raw materials for thermal power is mainly coal - a fossil fuel with large reserves in areas such as China, India, and the US. However, coal is a dirty, non-renewable fuel that produces greenhouse gas emissions in the process of combustion.
The IEA is concerned about the environmental impact of burning fossil fuels. Factories using this source of raw materials cause the emission of pollutants such as NOx, SOx, CO2, CO, PM, organic gases, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which increase acid rain and air pollution and are directly related to global warming.

In addition, a study published in August 2010 found that coal slag from thermal power plants contained pollutants, including arsenic, and has been linked to respiratory diseases and other health and development problems that have disrupted local aquatic life.
Coal is the remains of the earth's crust that also contain low levels of uranium, thorium, and other naturally occurring radioactive isotopes. A 1,000MW coal-fired power plant can release up to 5.2 tons of uranium and 12.8 tons of thorium annually.
Hydropower "kills" hydrology
Today, in the context of technology making great strides, scientists and environmental researchers also confirm that hydroelectricity is no longer a clean and cheap source of energy. This has been proven from practice with the amount of forest area lost or the number of households whose lives have been disturbed to serve the development of this power sourced recently.
The thing to be concerned about is the hot and dense development of small and medium hydro powers is leading to the destruction of river basins, blocking the natural flow downstream. Especially when the delta area is no longer filled with alluvium, our country will lose its advantage in agricultural development.

Increasingly, scientists and environmental research organizations have discovered many exciting things from the utility and advantages of solar power. And the name "all-people energy" is a modern definition, precisely like the nature of this type of energy.

It is not too difficult for the era of 4.0 - 5.0 to completely overcome the limitations of solar power, that is, limited capacity at night or on cloudy and rainy days. After all, wind power and solar power still have more advantages. Hence, energy security needs to be adequately understood, sufficiently, and wisely by EVN to overcome and, at the same time, promote the benefits of each type of energy.
"Emerging and developing economies have huge potential for clean energy, but the level of investment is far below what is needed. To address pressing energy needs and emission reduction targets in these economies, we need to mobilize private capital rapidly and urgently develop many projects. Projects can be more investable", emphasized Makhtar Diop, Director of IFC.
