Attending the Signing Ceremony July 13 were Dr. Pham Lan Dung, Acting President of the DAV, Dr. Nguyen Hung Son, Vice President of the DAV, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Director of the East Sea Institute, DAV.
The Ceremony also welcomed Mr. Ron Ton, Director of Clingendael Academy.
The Signing Ceremony took place with the witness of representatives of relevant departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representative from the Embassy of Kingdom of the Netherlands in Hanoi.
In this cooperation project, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and Clingendael Academy jointly developed an International Law of the Sea training program for public officials from ministries, branches, and localities in Vietnam.

The main goal of this project is to provide a strong knowledge and training basis in International Law of the Sea for public officials working for the government of Viet Nam as well as to permanently enhance training capacity on this topic for the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.
The Clingendael Institute is a well-known and long-standing research and training organization on international affairs and international law. Over the past 8 years, with the support of the government of the Netherlands, Clingendael Academy has cooperated intensively with the government of Viet Nam on numerous training programmes, including on the Law of the Sea.
The main goal of the project is to provide a strong knowledge and training basis in International Law of the Sea for public officials working for the government of Viet Nam. |
The training cooperation program under the MoU is expected to include 9 training courses in Vietnam and 3 field trips in the Netherlands, each course takes place in 5 days focusing on 3 main topics: International law and best practices in State Jurisdiction and Law of the Sea; International Environmental Law and International Dispute Settlement.
The content of the program is built closely to the practical needs of Vietnamese public officials. The course will be trained by lecturers from Clingendael Academy and Vietnamese and international subject matter experts.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two academies will greatly contribute to the cooperation and academic exchange between Vietnam and the Netherlands, especially helping to improve the legal capacity of the Vietnamese officials.
