Service Department for Diplomatic Corps hosts seminar on labour law guidance for international organizations in Vietnam

WVR - In April, in Hanoi, the Service Department for Diplomatic Corps, under Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with Save the Children in Vietnam (SCiV), organized a thematic seminar on labour law to update and guide the implementation of new regulations on Vietnamese labour law.

The seminar was connected online to Ho Chi Minh City and Lao Cai Province, attracting the participation of a large number of leaders, officials, and staff from SCiV.

At the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Tho Xuong, Head of the Labour Management Division of the Service Department for Diplomatic Corps, discussed, updated, and clarified some new information and regulations related to labour law and social insurance. The content focused on core issues such as types of labour contracts, principles of agreement, probationary regimes, and cases of contract termination. Notably, the clear distinction between severance pay and job loss allowance helped resolve one of the issues that easily arise during application.

Particularly, one of the deeply interested topics was the detailed guidance on the transition from fixed-term labour contracts to indefinite-term contracts. Based on this, representatives from the Labour Management Division of the Service Department for Diplomatic Corps recommended that SCiV promptly review and complete its internal regulations, such as labour rules and personnel evaluation mechanisms, to ensure compatibility with legal regulations and balance the interests of all parties involved.

The discussion session was candid and constructive, focusing on practical issues such as participating in social insurance when employees work in multiple places or handling cases where the contract termination coincides with job loss. The content was specifically addressed, contributing to raising awareness among international organizations and employees about their rights and obligations, as well as the strict adherence to Vietnamese law.

Speaking highly of the seminar's effectiveness, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Huong, Chief Representative of SCiV in Vietnam, emphasized: “The information from the Service Department for Diplomatic Corps is of immense value. Understanding rights and obligations under Vietnamese law will certainly help our human resources operations run more smoothly and effectively. SCiV hopes to continue receiving close cooperation from the Department in the future.”

The seminar concluded successfully, affirming the role of state management agencies in supporting international organizations to operate effectively and sustainably in Vietnam. With the motto "Transparent Management – Dedicated Service – Creating a Sustainable Cooperation Environment", Service Departmen for Diplomatic Corps continues to play a bridging role in narrowing the gap between policy and practice, contributing to creating a professional, transparent, and law-abiding labour environment.
