Pukyong National University is one of the three largest comprehensive universities in Busan, with a long history of over 100 years (formerly Busan University of Technology and Busan Maritime University) and is renowned for its strengths in marine sciences, fisheries, and technology.
During the meeting, Consul General Doan Phuong Lan and President Bae Sang Hoon discussed Pukyong University's prominent training programs, its educational orientation, and international cooperation with Vietnamese universities.
Consul General Doan Phuong Lan highly appreciated the collaboration between Pukyong National University and Vietnamese partners such as Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, and Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in student exchange programs and joint research in climate change, oceanography, cooperation with Vietnam University of Commerce on transfer programs and MBA training based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2025, and cooperation with Nha Trang University of Fisheries in fisheries and maritime training...
Consul General Doan Phuong Lan shared insights on Vietnam's socio-economic development orientation in the coming period, highlighting the breakthrough role of science and technology policies in building a high-quality workforce.
On this basis, Consul General Doan Phuong Lan proposed regular exchanges between the Vietnamese Consulate General in Busan and Pukyong National University to support Vietnamese students studying there and to promote research collaboration with institutes, universities, and businesses in Vietnam in high-tech, digital transformation, and maritime fields.
Currently, about 2,000 international students are studying from undergraduate to postgraduate levels at Pukyong National University, with Vietnamese students being the largest group.
Pukyong National University has been selected by the Ministry of Justice of South Korea to participate in the "K-Star Visa Track" priority visa program for foreign talents, facilitating international students, including Vietnamese graduates in engineering, IT, and shipbuilding, to easily transition to work visas (E-7) in Busan.
President Bae Sang Hoon expressed his special affection for Vietnamese students, stating that Pukyong National University is striving to participate in the Glocal 30 Project by the Korean Ministry of Education to gain more resources for the "K-Star Visa Track" program.
This initiative will provide more opportunities for international students, especially talented Vietnamese students, to engage in paid internships and work in Busan, particularly at corporations investing in Vietnam through the project's partner business network. President Bae Sang Hoon affirmed that he will ensure a conducive environment for Vietnamese students to study and develop at Pukyong National University.
Recently, Consul General Doan Phuong Lan met with Professor Ahn Kyong Hwan, who translated works such as Prison Diary by President Ho Chi Minh, The Tale of Kieu by Nguyen Du, and Unforgettable Years by General Vo Nguyen Giap into Korean, and met with several Korean intellectuals researching maritime issues.
