Leaders’ activities

On September 25, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and a high-ranking Party and State delegation left for Japan to attend a State funeral for late Prime Minister Abe Shinzo in Tokyo from September 25-28.

On September 19, at the Presidential Palace, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted separate receptions for Ambassadors of the Netherlands, Hungary, Australia and Luxembourg as they came to present their credentials.

On September 20, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received outgoing Indian Ambassador Pranay Verma, appreciating the outgoing diplomat’s contributions to the two countries’ cooperation in all aspects, especially during the two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On September 20, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to the United Nations (September 20, 1977 - 2022), President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent greetings to the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. In the message, the Vietnamese leader thanked the United Nations for the companionship and support of Vietnam's development over the past 45 years, reiterated Vietnam's support for multilateralism and the UN’s central role in responding to global challenges.

On this occasion, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres hails Vietnam-UN partnership. In his message, the UN Secretary-General thanked Vietnam for its cooperation and support for the UN's efforts in handling global challenges over the past 45 years.

On September 24, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and delivered speech at the ceremony to receive the UNESCO certificate recognising Xoe Thai as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity held in Nghia Lo town, Yen Bai province. The Prime Minister believed that the recognition of Xoe Thai as Vietnam’s14th heritage inscribed by UNESCO is a moment of great pride for the Thai ethnic people and the community of the country's 54 ethnic groups.

On September 22, at the invitation of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh delivered an pre-recorded message at the informal Leaders' Roundtable on Climate Change in New York, co-chaired by UN Secretary-General and Egyptian President.

On September 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chinese Premier had phone talks during which Li Keqiang expressed their delight at the development of ties between the two Parties and countries. The two sides agreed to facilitate all-level visits, especially making the best preparations for high-level visits following the 20th National Congress of the CPC, deepen practical ties as well as exchanges and travelling between their people.

On September 19, in Hanoi, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính chaired a online conference with the Heads of Vietnamese representative missions abroad to discuss on promoting economic diplomacy in the service of national development. The conference, the first of its kind, was linked with cities and provinces nationwide, and 94 Vietnamese Embassies and representative agencies abroad.

From September 21-25, during the trip to attend the High-level General Debate of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 77) in New York, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh had a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of the UN General Assembly 77 Csaba Korosi.

He also delivered a speech at the High-Level General Discussion; attended and spoke as a special guest at the Sustainable Development Impacts Meeting (SDI) held by WEF; participated in seminars with the United States Chamber of Commerce (USCC), the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) and US businesses; attended a banquet hosted by US President Joe Biden and met US senior foreign officials, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman; and had bilateral meetings with foreign leaders such as Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, Dutch Prime Minister, and Foreign Ministers of Sierra Leon, Guinea-Bissau and Malawi.

On September 23, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh presided over a ceremony to mark Vietnam's 77th National Day and the 45th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to the United Nations (September 20), with the attendance of representatives from the UN as well as leaders, ministers and officials of member states.

Activities of the Foreign Affairs Minister

On September 23, at the Headquarters of the Ministry, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son received Mongolian Deputy Foreign Minister Batsumber Munkhjin who visited Vietnam to co-chair a political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries. Foreign Minister Son affirmed that Vietnam always treasures and wants to further develop ties with Mongolia; suggested the two Foreign Ministries work as bridges to increase exchanges and effectively implement bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements, especially in economy, trade and investment, as well as jointly hold celebrations for the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2024.

From September 18-19, on behalf of the Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son attended the Queen Elizabeth II's State funeral held at Westminster Abbey in London, United Kingdom.

The Foreign Minister also attended a reception for representatives from nations hosted by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on September 18 night, and another reception hosted by British Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs James Cleverly at Westminster Abbey right after the funeral. During his trip to the UK, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son also met King Charles III, new Prime Minister Lizz Truss, and a number of British cabinet’s members.

On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Vietnam’s admission to the United Nations, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son wrote an article titled "45 years of Vietnam-UN ties: Reliable partnership for peace, cooperation, development".

Bilateral activities

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic Vietnam-Azerbaijan relations (September 23, 1992-2022), Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov had an interview with The World & Vietnam Report (WVR), stressed Azerbaijan’s hope to maintain an increasingly positive trajectory of relations with Vietnam.

On September 24, in Malakoff city, a suburb of Paris, the Vietnamese Embassy in France held the 3rd Friendship and Solidarity Day with Vietnam, aiming to strengthen connections with associations, organizations and mass organizations in France that have activities, solidarity and friendship with Vietnam, and at the same time, restarting union activities after a hiatus due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic.

On September 23, Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu and Mongolian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Batsumber Munkhjin co-chaired the 10th political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries of Vietnam and Mongolia.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu emphasized that Vietnam is a suitable partner to help Mongolia diversify its export-import markets, adding that both sides need to seek opportunities to lift two-way trade in the near future, proposed Mongolia assist Vietnam in sending labourers to Mongolia to work in the country.

On September 23, at a meeting with Japanese MP Aoyagi Yoichiro-Head of the Organizing Committee of the Vietnam Festival in Tokyo, Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is always ready to support and create favorable conditions for organizing the Vietnam Festival in Japan as well as cultural activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan in 2023.

On September 22, speaking at the National Day celebration of Saudi Arabia, Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu emphasized that Vietnam and Saudi Arabia share the same vision and aspiration for national development of a prosperous and happy country.

On September 20, at the Headquarters of the Ministry, Permanent Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu received outgoing Indian Ambassador Pranay Verma to say goodbye at the end of his tenure in Vietnam.

On September 19, receiving the delegation of the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Association led by Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, Chairman of the Association, Permanent Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu affirmed that Thailand continues to maintain its position as a trading partner, Vietnam's largest trade in ASEAN and is currently one of the 10 largest investment countries in Vietnam.

On September 19, in Moscow, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi received a delegation of of parliamentarians from the Russia’s State Duma (lower house) led by First Vice Chairman of the Russian State Duma and Vice Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) Ivan Melnikov.

On September 19, French Ambassador to Vietnam Nicolas Warnery awarded the French State’s National Order of the Legion of Honour to Ambassador Nguyen Thi Bich Hue for her particularly important contributions to the development of Vietnam-France relations during the past time.

Multilateral activities

On September 22-23, Ambassador Nguyen Hai Bang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to ASEAN attended the 68th Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Task Force meeting and the 12th consultation between the IAI Task Force and ASEAN partners in Jakarta at the headquarters of the ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta, Indonesia.

On September 22, an informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (IAMM) took place at the UN headquarters in New York to discuss cooperation within the bloc and coordination in member countries’ candidacies for membership of UN bodies and international organisations. Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc emphasised that ASEAN needs to keep upholding and promoting the TAC’s principles and values, especially amid profound, fast, and complex changes in the region and the world that have multidimensional impacts on all countries.

On September 20 (local time), the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 77) was officially launched in New York with Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, jointly chairing the opening. The debate’s theme is “A watershed moment: Transformative solutions to interlocking challenges” this year. From September 13, Vietnam has been elected as one of the Vice Presidents of UNGA 77, representing the Asia-Pacific Region for one year.

On September 20, on the 45th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to the United Nations (September 20, 1977 - 2022), Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), WTO and other international organisations in Geneva, led a Vietnamese delegation to attend the UN exhibition of historical documents and artifacts commemorating the 100 th anniversary of multilateralism in Geneva (1920-2020). At the exhibition, Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai signed the poster of the UN Charter.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson

On September 22, at the regular press conference, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang rejected all untruthful, unobjective contents with bad prejudices that some foreign organisations have raised about the human rights in Vietnam and Vietnam's candidacy for the United Nations Human Rights Council; updated information that Vietnam and Cambodia have saved over 1,000 Vietnamese citizens who have been tricked to work illegally in Cambodia; and response to information concerning export rice prices on the occasion of the visit of the Minister of Agriculture of Thailand to Vietnam.

Other activities

On September 23, at the press conference, Deputy Director General, Department of Cultural Diplomacy & UNESCO Tran Quoc Khanh informed that Vietnam Days Abroad 2022, an combination of online and offline promotional activities, will be held in Austria, India, and Republic of Korea on the occasion of the anniversaries of diplomatic relations establishment between Vietnam and these countries.

From September 22-24, a Communist Party of Vietnam delegation, led by Party Central Committee Member, Deputy Head of the Central Inspection Commission Tran Duc Thang attended the 26th annual international conference "Political Parties and a New Society", in Mexico City, Mexico.

From September 17-20, a Communist Party of Vietnam delegation, led by Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chairwoman of Commission for Mass Mobilisation Bui Thi Minh Hoai paid a working visit to Poland.
