Leaders’ activities
On August 19, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received former Special Ambassador for Vietnam-Japan Sugi Ryotaro. The President said he hopes the former special Ambassador will continue to propose initiatives and activities to strengthen the friendship and mutual understanding between the two peoples.
On August 18, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi who was on an official visit to Vietnam from August 17-18. The President spoke highly of the visit to Vietnam by the Kazakh official on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, and believed that the visit will contribute to consolidating and promoting the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
On the same day, while receiving Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam has always treasured its traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Kazakhstan.
On August 17, receiving former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, who was on a visit to Vietnam, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that Vietnam wants to cooperate with Israel in fields of its strength such as innovation, science-tech and renewable energy.
On August 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a teleconference with Vietnamese Trade Representative offices abroad linked with 62 locations, in charge of 176 markets in countries around the world. The Prime Minister suggested ministries, agencies and trade representative offices examine policies in their host countries, and offer suggestions to help localities, sectors and domestic firms diversify goods, expand exports and diversify supply chains.
On August 15, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani who paid an official visit to Vietnam from August 14-15. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed Qatar’s capital ventures and enterprises to explore investment opportunities in Vietnam.
On the occasion of Hungary's National Day (August 20), President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue sent their congratulatory messages to President Novák Katalin, Prime Minister Orbán Viktor and National Assembly Speaker Kövér László of Hungary, respectively. On the occasion, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son also congratulated his Hungarian counterpart Szijjártó Peter.
On August 15, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of India's Independence (August 15, 1947-2022), President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent a congratulatory message to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh sent congratulatory messages to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue extended his congratulations to Senate President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lok Sabha) Om Birla. On the same day, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son sent a congratulatory message to Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
On August 16, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue extended his congratulations to new leaders of the Australian Parliament. National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue sent a congratulatory letter to the new President of the Senate of Australia, Susan Lines.
The same day, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue also sent a message of congratulations to the new Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives, Milton Dick.
Activities of the Foreign Affairs Minister
On the morning of August 18, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son welcomed and held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi.

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi compared notes on measures to foster cooperation between the two countries during their talks. For his part, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tileuberdi affirmed that Vietnam is a priority partner in the region and that promoting close cooperation with Vietnam is an important element of Kazakhstan's foreign policy towards Asia-Pacific.
On August 15, at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, who paid an official visit to Vietnam from August 14-15.
At the talks, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries expressed their delight at the positive developments of friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Qatar. They agreed that there is still plenty of room to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially in potential fields such as politics-diplomacy, economy, energy, tourism and labor.
On August 19, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son sent a message of sympathy to his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan over the huge losses in human lives caused by a fire at a shopping centre in the capital city of Yerevan on August 14.
Bilateral activities
On the evening of August 19, in Hanoi, the Indonesian Embassy held the ceremony to celebrate the 77th Independence Day of Indonesia (August 17, 1945 - August 17, 2022). In his welcoming remarks at the event, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu said that Vietnam and Indonesia are natural partners, sharing a lot in terms of cultural background, historical circumstances, geo-strategic locations, and intertwined interests in the region and the world.

On this occasion, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi wrote an article for the World & Vietnam Report, on Indonesia-Vietnam relations.
On August 17, in Vientiane, within the framework of a working visit with the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs on promoting economic diplomacy, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang paid a courtesy call to Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos Saleumsay Kommasith.
On August 15, speaking at the 75th Anniversary of India's Independence Day, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu affirmed that Vietnam consistently attaches importance to and gives priority to the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership with India, supporting India's Act East policy, India's relations with ASEAN as well as India's desire to become a permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council once this organ is expanded.
On August 15, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany, the German Foreign Ministry sent a note notifying that Germany will issue visas for holders of Vietnam’s new passport that has added information about the place of birth. The German side welcomes Vietnam's prompt solution to the issue.
Multilateral activities
On August 19, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, held a working session with President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Csaba Kőrösi to discuss UNGA’s working priorities as well as Vietnam’s issues of concern.
Citizen protection
On August 20, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang informed the work for citizen protection in the case of 42 Vietnamese nationals who recently escaped from a casino in Cambodia’s Kandal (Cambodia) province and swam across the Binh Ghi River (An Giang) to return home.
On August 17, regarding the updated information on the victims of the fire in Manchester, following the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consular Department and the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK continue to actively and closely coordinate with relevant authorities in the UK and Vietnam to quickly complete the identification process of other victims, support victims’ families with necessary post-mortem procedures, and at the same time expedite the investigation, and ensure the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens.
Other activities
Last week, many Vietnamese representative missions abroad held celebrations, exchanges and community meetings on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of September 2.
