Competing in a total of seven matches, Liem came third with 4.5 points, 0.5 points lower than first-and second-placed players Vincent Keymer (Germany) and Nodirbek Abdusattorov (Uzbekistan). Most notably, he beat Gata Kamsky (USA), the winner of the 2007 World Cup, in the last match, despite holding black pieces.
Elsewhere, both Keymer and Abdusattorov were tied at the top with five points each. The German grandmaster was eventually crowned as the winner as he won two games with black pieces, while Abdusattorov only recorded one victory playing black pieces.
Liem will continue to compete in the Blitz Tournament, which is scheduled to take place on July 17. He aims to improve his Elo rating to make the top 20 list globally.
Following the conclusion of Biel Grandmasters 2022, the leading Vietnamese chess player will return home to join the national team ahead of Olympiad, which will be held in India on July 26.
