WVR/VNA - On the afternoon of August 6, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung received Malaysian Ambassador Tan Yang Thai for a farewell visit as he concludes his term.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung congratulated and highly appreciated the Ambassador for his outstanding completion of duties in Vietnam over the past three years, making significant contributions to the comprehensive and synchronized cooperation between the two countries across all fields, especially the elevation of their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in November 2024 during General Secretary To Lam's official visit to Malaysia.

Highlighting the fruitful cooperation between the two nations, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung emphasized that economic collaboration is a bright spot in bilateral relations. Malaysia is currently Vietnam's third-largest trading partner in ASEAN and the 10th largest investor among 154 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

The Prime Minister suggested that both sides further open their markets to each other's goods, especially agricultural and aquatic products, food industry items, electronic components, and construction materials, aiming to soon achieve a bilateral trade turnover of 20 billion USD in a more balanced manner. He proposed that Malaysia invest in developing the Halal industry in Vietnam by building capacity, establishing common Halal certification standards, and mutual recognition between National Halal Certification Centres. He also suggested that both sides closely cooperate to promote the trilateral project between Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore on cross-border offshore wind power transmission.

The Prime Minister highly valued Ambassador Tan Yang Thai's role in information connectivity to enhance bilateral cooperation at regional and international forums. He urged both countries to continue supporting each other in multilateral frameworks such as ASEAN, the United Nations, APEC, WTO, etc.

The Prime Minister expressed his hope that Ambassador Tan Yang Thai, in his new position in the near future, will continue to focus on promoting the development of bilateral relations and expedite the approval of the Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, providing a basis for effectively and substantively advancing bilateral relations.

Expressing his thanks to Prime Minister Le Minh Hung for the meeting, Ambassador Tan Yang Thai affirmed that Malaysia always values and hopes to further strengthen bilateral relations, especially in areas where both countries have potential and strengths such as oil and gas, agriculture, education and training, digital transformation, digital security, and science and technology. He expressed confidence that the two countries will play an important role in promoting ASEAN's unity and development, resolving disputes through peaceful means and international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

On this occasion, Ambassador Tan Yang Thai expressed his sincere thanks to the leaders of the Party, State, Government, and relevant ministries of Vietnam for their attention and support in helping him successfully complete his term in Vietnam. He affirmed his commitment to continue striving to foster the cooperative relationship between the two countries, contributing to the robust and substantive development of the Vietnam-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
