Prime Minister Le Minh Hung meets with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing in Hanoi
WVR - On September 5, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing during his official visit to Vietnam from September 4-6, 2026.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung welcomed President Min Aung Hlaing on his first visit to Vietnam in his new role, emphasising that the visit demonstrates the determination of both Governments to cooperate closely and deepen bilateral cooperation across various fields.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung congratulated Myanmar on achieving significant results in national management and administration under the leadership of President Min Aung Hlaing. He affirmed that Vietnam supports the Myanmar government in continuing measures to promote stability, reconciliation, dialogue, economic development, and improving the lives of its people. He expressed confidence that Myanmar will continue to achieve positive outcomes, address socio-economic issues, and expand foreign relations.
President Min Aung Hlaing expressed gratitude for the warm reception by Vietnam's leaders and congratulated Vietnam on its significant achievements in socio-economic development. He also appreciated Vietnam's increasingly prominent role and position in the region and the world.

The Myanmar President expressed a hope to learn from Vietnam's socio-economic development experience. President Min Aung Hlaing affirmed the importance of maintaining and nurturing the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Myanmar, built by generations of leaders and people from both countries. He noted that the two countries have favourable conditions to advance bilateral relations to a new stage of development and thanked Vietnam for its consistent support of Myanmar's development and international integration.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the recent progress in bilateral relations, including the presentation of credentials by the new ambassadors of both countries and the successful organization of the 10th session of the Joint Committee on Bilateral Cooperation at the Foreign Minister level.

The two leaders agreed to enhance political trust, promote high-level and various levels of exchanges, and comprehensively strengthen cooperation across all channels, including Party, State, Government, National Assembly, and people-to-people diplomacy in the new phase. They aim to resume important cooperation mechanisms such as the Joint Sub-Committee on Trade Cooperation, Security Dialogue, and the Joint Working Group on Bilateral Defense Cooperation, creating new momentum for the Vietnam-Myanmar Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership.
Both sides agreed to bolster defense and security cooperation as a pillar of bilateral cooperation, focusing on coordination in combating transnational crime, cybercrime, online fraud, and drug-related offenses. They also plan to expand cooperation in training, exchanges of young officers, military cultural and sports exchanges, and responses to non-traditional security challenges such as rescue, disaster relief, and recovery.
Discussing economic, trade, and investment cooperation, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and President Min Aung Hlaing agreed that both countries have significant potential to explore and complement each other. They emphasised the need to enhance exchanges on directions and measures to boost trade growth between the two countries and review and update commitments and cooperation agreements in trade, investment, and customs.
The Prime Minister welcomed the organization of the Business Forum, which serves as an opportunity to strengthen business connections between the two countries and promote investment cooperation opportunities. He urged the Myanmar government to continue facilitating and resolving challenges faced by Vietnamese businesses and stated that the Vietnamese government is ready to encourage businesses to invest in areas of interest to Myanmar.

President Min Aung Hlaing affirmed continued support for Vietnamese businesses operating in Myanmar and emphasised the desire for Vietnam to expand investment in Myanmar in sectors such as telecommunications, digital transformation, high-tech agriculture, irrigation, aquaculture, food processing, and infrastructure investment.
The two leaders also agreed to comprehensively promote cooperation in other fields, particularly infrastructure connectivity, aviation, education, culture, people-to-people exchanges, and local connections, to foster understanding and goodwill between the peoples of the two countries. They aim to soon restore direct flights from Vietnam to Myanmar and develop joint tourism products, including spiritual and medical tourism, while expanding tourism destination connectivity with countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion.
Regarding regional cooperation, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung praised Myanmar's efforts in promoting peace, stability, and reconciliation. He stressed that Vietnam will coordinate with ASEAN member countries to maintain contact and promote constructive dialogue with Myanmar. Both sides shared the view of supporting peaceful resolution of disputes based on international law, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung invited President Min Aung Hlaing to Vietnam for the CLMV Summit and to chair the ACMECS Summit in November 2026 in Hanoi. The Myanmar President also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Le Minh Hung to visit Myanmar at a convenient time.
