On the occasion, he asked the municipal authorities to continue reviewing the list of residents in need of support ahead of the Lunar New Year festival, especially disadvantaged, policy beneficiary families and lonely old-age persons, to ensure that they enjoy a safe and happy holiday.

He also wished that the municipal Party Organisation, authorities and people would continue striving to score more achievements in various areas.

Over the past years, Da Nang has pooled all possible resources to help residents escape poverty sustainably. Its poverty reduction programme for the 2016-2020 period met targets two years ahead of schedule. The city is now home to 12,036 poor and 5,111 near-poor households under new criteria.

The city has earmarked over 72.5 billion VND (3.15 million USD) in support of 120,289 local households and residents for Tet.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front chapters at all levels presented 39,878 gifts worth 19.3 billion USD to disadvantaged people there on the occasion.
