President Luong Cuong meets Mayor of Busan city Park Heong Joon

WVR - On the afternoon of November 1, continuing activities within the framework of his visit to Republic of Korea for the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders' Week and bilateral engagements, President Luong Cuong visited Busan city and met with Mr. Park Heong Joon, Mayor of Busan.

On behalf of the leadership and people of Busan, Mayor Park Heong Joon expressed his honour and warmly welcomed President Luong Cuong and the high-level Vietnamese delegation to the city. He expressed joy over the excellent development of Republic of Korea-Vietnam relations across various fields.

Mayor Park Heong Joon affirmed that the visit by General Secretary To Lam, which announced the establishment of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Busan (August 2025), and President Luong Cuong's visit to Busan will significantly enhance substantive cooperation between Busan and Vietnamese localities.

President Luong Cuong expressed his delight that over 30 years of diplomatic relations, the two countries have officially upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (December 2022) and have become each other's leading partners in the region. He affirmed the vast potential for cooperation between the two nations and noted that both sides are actively working to achieve the goal of increasing bilateral trade to 150 billion USD by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable manner.

President Luong Cuong congratulated Busan on its significant achievements in becoming Republic of Korea's second-largest economic center and the world's fifth-largest port city. He thanked the city leadership for their active support of the Vietnamese Consulate General's activities in Busan.

President Luong Cuong suggested that Busan continue to expand cooperation with Vietnamese provinces and cities, especially in areas where Busan has strengths, such as port operations and shipbuilding.

On this occasion, President Luong Cuong expressed gratitude and hoped that the Busan city administration would continue to support the Vietnamese community living, studying, and working in Busan, thereby contributing to the city's development and strengthening the role of a friendly bridge between the two countries.

Expressing appreciation and high agreement with the directives and orientations of President Luong Cuong, Mayor Park Heong Joon committed that Busan will continue to closely collaborate with Ho Chi Minh City and other Vietnamese provinces and cities to enhance substantive cooperation in areas of mutual strength, especially in port operations, shipbuilding, high-quality human resource training, and tourism cooperation. This will contribute to the substantial development of the Korea-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Mayor Park Heong Joon affirmed that the Busan city administration is ready to support and facilitate the activities of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Busan. He also pledged to continue implementing policies to protect the legitimate rights of the 14,000 Vietnamese citizens in Busan, thereby enabling the Vietnamese community to integrate more deeply and contribute significantly to the city's development, while effectively promoting the role of a friendly bridge between the two countries.
