According to Decision No. 1579/QĐ-TTg, the Prime Minister will be the Committee Chairman, while Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang, and Government Inspector General Doan Hong Phong will serve as Vice Chairpersons.

The Steering Committee is an inter-sectoral body tasked with assisting the Prime Minister in researching, directing, and coordinating to address important inter-sectoral issues related to wastefulness prevention and control.

It will give advice to the Government leader on putting forth orientations and solutions to the issues regarding the implementation of the National Strategy on Wastefulness Prevention and Control and the Government's programme on practising thrift and preventing wastefulness; and perform other relevant tasks.

The Steering Committee will also assist the Prime Minister in directing and coordinating ministries, ministerial-level and government agencies, and relevant organisations in resolving important inter-sectoral issues to put in place the above-mentioned strategy and programme.

The Ministry of Finance serves as the standing agency of the Steering Committee.
