PM Pham Minh Chinh holds phone talks with German Chancellor on strengthening Strategic Partnership

WVR - On the afternoon of September 29, at the Government Headquarters, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1975-2025), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a phone call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss measures to enhance the Vietnam-Germany Strategic Partnership for more substantial, effective, and comprehensive development.

During the call, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conveyed greetings from General Secretary To Lam and other high-ranking leaders of the Party and state to the German Chancellor. He praised Germany's role and position in the European Union and on the international stage.

Expressing delight at the 50-year diplomatic relationship, where Germany is a leading partner in trade and investment, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam always values strengthening and developing its Strategic Partnership with Germany across all fields.

The Prime Minister proposed that Germany continue to effectively implement the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), promptly ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and further facilitate businesses from both countries in expanding investment and business cooperation. He suggested making science, technology, and innovation a new pillar in bilateral cooperation.

Impressed by Vietnam's development potential and growing regional and global stature, Chancellor Friedrich Merz commended Vietnam's significant achievements in various fields and its issuance of important resolutions to promote socio-economic development, science, technology, and innovation.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz affirmed that Germany values its Strategic Partnership with Vietnam and wishes to continue expanding cooperation in strategic areas such as green economy, energy transition, circular economy, supporting industries, and logistics services. He also inquired about the situation of storms and flood recovery efforts in Vietnam.

In a sincere, frank, and trustworthy atmosphere, the two Prime Ministers expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in bilateral relations, especially in the fields of economy, trade, investment, science, technology, energy transition, education, and labor.

Both sides agreed to soon elevate bilateral relations to a higher level, continue to enhance high-level delegation exchanges, effectively utilize existing cooperation mechanisms, and promote the establishment of joint working groups in economic, political, and labor fields.

The two Prime Ministers agreed to further strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, green finance, renewable energy, digital transformation, sustainable development, supporting industries, digital economy, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and transportation.

The two Prime Ministers agreed to continue close coordination within the ASEAN-EU framework and at international and regional forums.

They exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern, affirming their stance on resolving disputes peacefully based on international law. They emphasized the role of international cooperation and regional integration for peace, stability, and sustainable development.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that Germany continue to facilitate the Vietnamese community in Germany to stabilize their lives, integrate into the local society, and contribute positively to the host country's development and bilateral friendship. He also urged the promotion of vocational training cooperation programs and the recruitment of high-skilled labor from Vietnam to Germany, in line with the labor market needs of both sides.

On this occasion, the two Prime Ministers extended invitations for official visits at a convenient time to further discuss measures to enhance and improve bilateral cooperation.
