Welcoming the significant and historically and politically meaningful visit of the UN Secretary-General, the National Assembly Chairman expressed confidence that the visit will create new momentum, contributing to the robust development of Vietnam–UN cooperation, continuing the substantial achievements made together over nearly 50 years for peace and development.

The National Assembly Chairman expressed gratitude for the personal affection and invaluable support of the Secretary-General, as well as the effective contributions and assistance from the UN – a trusted and close partner of Vietnam in national reconstruction and in the current comprehensive international integration and reform efforts.

Affirming that Vietnam always trusts, values, and strongly supports multilateralism and the central role of the UN in global governance, the leadership, and initiatives of the Secretary-General, the National Assembly Chairman emphasized that Vietnam will continue to contribute more effectively to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and globally, to the common work of the UN and multilateral cooperation, including global and regional inter-parliamentary forums, especially within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman informed the UN Secretary-General about Vietnam's socio-economic development and social welfare assurance, improving the people's living standards, as well as the National Assembly's efforts in creating and perfecting the legal framework, governance institutions, and domesticating international obligations and commitments, including many UN priorities such as implementing Sustainable Development Goals and signing the UN Convention on Cybercrime, which is open for signature in Hanoi.

The UN Secretary-General expressed appreciation and special affection for National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, having been a member of the Portuguese Parliament for 18 years, as well as support for Vietnam's struggle for independence and unity.

Admiring Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, the Secretary-General especially congratulated the rapid and profound reform results recently achieved by Vietnam, considering Vietnam a successful model in promoting sustainable development, fulfilling commitments on green transition, digital transformation, innovation, and strong reform for rapid, strong, and sustainable development to better serve the people, offering good experiences to share with other countries and the UN. The Secretary-General was impressed by the efforts and contributions of the Vietnamese National Assembly in this process and the active, urgent activities of the current National Assembly session.

The UN Secretary-General highly appreciated Vietnam's role, position, and contributions through example, voice, intellect, and concrete actions, especially in implementing major UN goals, participating in peacekeeping activities, and hosting the signing ceremony of the UN Convention against Cybercrime.

Impressed by Vietnam's foreign policy and ASEAN's success in the region, the Secretary-General affirmed the UN's full support for Vietnam in its development and comprehensive integration efforts, supporting ASEAN's central role in the regional security architecture.

The Secretary-General also appreciated the active participation of the Vietnamese National Assembly in multilateral inter-parliamentary foreign mechanisms, hoping that the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to play an active role in promoting multilateral solutions to common concerns.

Both sides agreed to strengthen connections, promote cooperation mechanisms between the Vietnamese National Assembly and UN activities, relevant multilateral mechanisms, especially inter-parliamentary cooperation, in implementing global initiatives.
