MOFA exhibition attracts local and international visitors with newly unveiled exhibits

As part of the national exhibition "80 Years of Independence - Freedom - Happiness" commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and National Day on September 2, the exhibition will be open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. through September 15, 2025, to accommodate expected high interest.

The MOFA exhibition offers panels and displays in both Vietnamese and English, with QR codes providing detailed information for visitors, especially international attendees. This approach enhances accessibility and highlights Viet Nam’s commitment to openness and international engagement throughout its 80-year diplomatic history.

The exhibition showcases more than 150 photographs, 80 documents and valuable artifacts, carefully selected from a wealth of domestic and international sources - many of which are being unveiled for the first time. The display vividly retraces defining milestones, landmark events, and key achievements of Viet Nam’s diplomacy over the past eight decades: Safeguarding independence, building and developing the nation, and elevating the country’s standing and image on the global stage.

From the very entrance, visitors are drawn to notable facts and figures highlighted on panels and LED screens. These highlight Vietnam’s extensive diplomatic achievements: diplomatic relations with 194 countries, including 38 Comprehensive Strategic, Strategic, and Comprehensive Partners; engagement between the Communist Party of Vietnam and 259 political parties across 119 nations; participation in 17 bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements; successful campaigns for 73 UNESCO titles and heritage recognitions; the establishment of over 5,000 border markers along its land boundaries; the handling of an average of 15,000 annual citizen protection cases; and membership in more than 70 intergovernmental and regional organizations worldwide.

The exhibition presents a collection of valuable diplomatic documents and artifacts, such as the Declaration of Independence of Vietnam (September 2, 1945), the Geneva Accords on the Cessation of Hostilities in Vietnam (July 21, 1954), and the Paris Peace Accords on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam (January 27, 1973).

The exhibition also features remarkable milestones in international integration, such as the United Nations General Assembly Resolution admitting Viet Nam as a UN Member State (1977) and the Decision on Vietnam’s accession to the World Trade Organization (2006).

Highlights of the exhibition include the gavel used at the United Nations when Vietnam served as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, a book containing 10,000 signatures from the Cuban people in support of Vietnam, and 5 notebooks belonging to Madame Nguyen Thi Binh, Foreign Affairs Minister of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam and Head of its delegation to the Paris Conference from 1968 to 1973, along with many other valuable and original diplomatic artifacts.

These original diplomatic artifacts and documents have drawn strong interest from visitors. Each item offers tangible evidence of the determination, intellect, and aspirations of the Vietnamese people.

The exhibition also integrates historical documents with interactive experiences for visitors. MOFA’s exhibition features specially produced films showcasing Vietnam’s diplomatic initiatives. They were presented on large screens and meticulously curated with input from various departments within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnamese diplomatic missions overseas, and the diplomatic offices in Hanoi.

A key interactive feature is the United Nations podium check-in zone, modelled after the UN General Assembly Hall, which allows attendees to step into the role of a diplomat and capture their visit. This area has quickly become a highly frequented attraction, appealing to visitors across all age groups.

Since the opening, the exhibition has welcomed Vietnamese Party and State leaders as well as representatives of ministries and central agencies. Their attendance underscores the Party and State’s strong commitment to diplomacy and reaffirms the important role of foreign affairs in national development and defense.

The MOFA exhibition also had the honour of hosting prominent international delegations. Among the esteemed guests were His Excellency Thongloun Sisoulith, President of Laos; Samdech Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party and President of the Cambodian Senate; along with other distinguished officials and representatives from diplomatic corps, embassies and international organisations.
