The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was among the very first ministries established in the Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, founded and directly led by President Ho Chi Minh, who also served as its first Foreign Minister.
Over the past 80 years, since the early days of nation-building and throughout the resistance wars against France and the United States, diplomacy has been one of the decisive fronts that led the nation to ultimate victory. In the following 40 years of Doi Moi, the Ministry has continued its pioneering mission, joining hands with other ministries and branches to secure remarkable achievements, helping Vietnam not only establish its presence on the world map but also shine as a bright spot regionally and globally.
According to Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, Vietnam has now established diplomatic relations with 194 countries, and the Communist Party of Vietnam maintains ties with 259 political parties worldwide. Fields such as economic integration, cultural diplomacy, external communications, citizen protection, overseas Vietnamese affairs, and border and territorial issues all bear the imprint of generations of leaders and diplomats.

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that every diplomat is a soldier on a silent battlefield, playing a pioneering role, joining other forces to lead the nation into a new era of peace and prosperity, fulfilling President Ho Chi Minh’s vision of Vietnam standing shoulder to shoulder with major powers.
During an inspection of the exhibition preparations, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang praised the dedication of ministry staff for meeting tight deadlines and expressed confidence that the display will offer visitors a comprehensive and vivid overview of Vietnam’s proud diplomatic history.

Sharing about the implementation, Mr. Nguyen Manh Dong, Vice President of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, noted that despite pressures of time, quality requirements, and last-minute changes, strong direction from Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, as well as contributions from generations of diplomats and 98 overseas representative missions, made it possible to collect valuable materials, many of them shown publicly for the first time.
“The active participation of all generations of diplomats has inspired us in bringing to the public the 80-year history and pride of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he said.
He expressed hope that the exhibition will vividly recreate historic milestones, major events, and achievements, marking 80 years of devoted service to the nation, while inspiring young generations to carry forward Vietnam’s diplomatic tradition in the new era.
