In her opening speech, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Thi Hoang Van highly appreciated the coordination between the agencies of the two countries and the Quang Ninh authorities in organizing the event. The Deputy Minister emphasised that the Conference takes place at a particularly significant time, as Quang Ninh has just become the eighth centrally governed city in Vietnam, and the Action Program to implement the Vietnam – Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2026-2030 period has been signed.

The organization of the Conference in Quang Ninh, the locality leading the country in economic growth rate in the first nine months of 2026, demonstrates the determination to spread bilateral relations from the national to the local level, from policy orientation to economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

Reviewing the development journey of bilateral relations, the Deputy Minister affirmed that the Vietnam – Indonesia friendship was founded by President Ho Chi Minh and President Sukarno and has been nurtured by many generations of leaders and people of the two countries. The upgrade of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during General Secretary To Lam's state visit to Indonesia in March 2025 is an important milestone, reflecting the deepening political trust and strategic interest alignment. Vietnam is the first ASEAN country to establish this relationship framework with Indonesia.

According to the Deputy Minister, the two countries share many similarities in vision and development aspirations, both aiming for the milestone of 100 years of independence by 2045. This provides a favorable foundation to strengthen strategic ties, leverage complementary advantages, and create new growth drivers.

Economic cooperation continues to be a highlight in bilateral relations. Bilateral trade turnover reached USD 17.2 billion in 2025 and nearly USD 13 billion in the first eight months of 2026, making Indonesia Vietnam's second-largest trading partner in ASEAN. Indonesia's registered investment capital in Vietnam reached over USD 1.7 billion in the first seven months of 2026, ranking it sixth among foreign investors in Vietnam. Vietnamese businesses are also increasingly expanding their investment activities in Indonesia.

Additionally, air connectivity, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges continue to expand; the two countries maintain coordination and support each other in multilateral organizations and forums, contributing to strengthening ASEAN's unity and central role.

In the context of many global and regional fluctuations, the Deputy Minister believes that Vietnam – Indonesia relations should continue to be a strategically significant pillar in each country's foreign policy, closely linked to national development goals and contributing to the common peace, stability, and prosperity of ASEAN.

In this spirit, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Hoang Van proposed four key cooperation orientations: continue to concretize the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, turn political commitments into practical actions with high added value, and effectively implement the 2026-2030 Action Program; consolidate traditional growth drivers through infrastructure connectivity, expand trade, investment, direct flights, facilitate market access and cross-border payments, while promoting production linkages and deeper participation in supply chains.

Along with that, the two sides need to create breakthroughs in cooperation in science and technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, innovation, green transition, and energy transition; enhance cooperation in education, training, connect universities, research institutions, and promote the potential of cultural industries.

The Deputy Minister hopes the Conference will become a space for action-oriented connectivity, helping parties identify feasible projects, establish coordination focal points, and monitor post-event implementation, rather than just stopping at potential exchanges.

At the Conference, Mr. Kurniawan Ariadi and Ms. Zelda Wulan Kartika shared about Indonesia's development orientations, priority policies, and economic cooperation strategies; at the same time, they discussed prospects for expanding trade, investment, supply chain connectivity, and developing business partnerships with Vietnam. The trade and investment discussion session focused on trade opportunities, business connectivity, market access, and expanding cooperation between the two economies.

The conference Meet Indonesia 2026 continues to affirm the role of diplomacy as a bridge in promoting economic linkage, deepening the Vietnam – Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and creating more practical cooperation opportunities between localities and business communities of the two countries.
