Local leaders urged to pay special attention to anti-corruption

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked leaders of localities to pay special attention to combating corruption, explaining that high awareness could generate productive outcomes.

Speaking at a teleconference between the Government and localities nationwide in Hanoi on December 28, the leader said directions to be issued by the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Prime Minister will ban giving and accepting Tet gifts. 

“The fight against corruption should begin from the grassroots level to create visible changes”, he noted.

Regarding limitations that still remain in the settlement of petitions and complaints of people, the PM stressed that local authorities must hold dialogues with residents. 

He applauded efforts made by many ministries and agencies such as the Ministries of Industry and Trade, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Construction to cut business conditions.  

Mentioning the fourth industrial revolution, PM Phuc said he hopes leaders of localities, ministries and agencies will pay more heed to improving productivity. 

At the conference, representatives of localities contributed opinions to solutions and tasks drafted by ministries and agencies. 

Earlier, they heard reports regarding business climate improvement, social welfare policies, capacity to access the fourth industrial revolution, administrative reform, e-Government, the settlement of petitions and complaints, and the anti-corruption work. 

The December 28-29 conference is the largest annual conference of the Government to evaluate the national socio-economic performance in 2017 and set forth key solutions and tasks for 2018.
