Blessed with a cool and pleasant climate all year round, Lung Trang Plateau in Phuc Loc Commune spreads across about 830 hectares at an altitude of nearly 1,000 metres above sea level. Its winding paths meander through Dao ethnic villages and maple forests that turn golden and crimson in autumn, making the plateau a natural masterpiece. Visitors here can truly immerse themselves in the vast expanse of the sky and earth.

Chasing clouds on the Mountain Peak

In late autumn, we travelled some 130 kilometres from the centre of Thai Nguyen Province to Lung Trang Hamlet in Phuc Loc Commune, in the northern part of the province, for a “cloud-chasing” trip.

Morning on the plateau is truly special. Mist lingers in the air as sunlight weaves through clouds, spreading warmth across the mountainous landscape. The sun rises slowly while soft white clouds drift and embrace the hills.

Having visited this place many times for photography, artist Hoang Thao from Phan Dinh Phung Ward shared excitedly: “To capture the most beautiful clouds here, you have to start very early, before the sunlight disperses them”.

The best time for cloud-hunting is in autumn and winter, when maple leaves turn brilliant yellow and red. The ideal hours to capture the sunrise are between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Visitors to Lung Trang are captivated by its pristine beauty and fresh climate.

Lung Trang is 22 kilometers from Ba Be Lake, making it an ideal picnic spot for locals and tourists. At 7 a.m., as the sun rises higher, we enjoy breakfast while admiring the Dao and Tay villages below. The locals here have preserved many distinctive traditional cultural features, so visitors can combine “cloud chasing” with exploring these villages.

Additionally, history enthusiasts can explore places where President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap once passed on their revolutionary journey.

The meadow features many grassy hills of various shapes—some are flat and round, while others are long and ridge-like, resembling a dinosaur's back. Wildflowers sporadically grow among the bushes, with mountains and clouds in the distance for visitors to enjoy.

Having discovered Lung Trang meadow through Facebook and traveled a considerable distance with friends to experience it, Tran Thuy Ngoc, a travel enthusiast from Dai Tu commune, Thai Nguyen, shared: When I stepped onto the grassy hills, I felt nature here was very generous.

Spacious and cool, the sky in Lung Trang is crystal clear, offering an infinite view perfect for “cloud chasing”. The feeling of freedom and immersion in nature, along with the purple mua hills, allows for unique and meaningful photo opportunities.

Experiencing nature

In the early morning, clouds hover very low.

As Ngoc described, setting foot on the grassy hills, the first impression for visitors is the vast landscape, seemingly endless.

The rolling hills, with some flat and gentle sections, are ideal for fun and camping. Families looking for a place where children can freely play and run away from computers and phones will find this an unmissable suggestion.

The high sky with drifting white clouds and smooth grass are unique features of Lung Trang. Each season, the meadow is beautiful and has its own charm.

In summer, it is a lush green, refreshing sight, but the grass changes color with the seasons and time. In late autumn or winter, the grass turns yellow, creating a slightly wild, mysterious atmosphere, rich in cinematic quality.

Not far from the Ba Be Lake tourist complex, Lung Trang meadow is a new and unique scenic spot, perfect for camping and picnics on weekends.

Camping in Lung Trang is a wonderful experience, enjoying the fresh morning mist and witnessing the sunrise spreading across the Northeast land. In the evening, the sunset paints the hills red, and at night, you can gaze at the starry sky.

Amidst the vast, sunlit, and windy meadow, with breathtaking views, visitors are sure to have a memorable journey in the skies of Lung Trang.
