Songkran is a celebration that places emphasis on respect, love and gratitude using water as means of expression. This year, the Thai Embassy organises event ‘Songkran in Hanoi’ to create a cultural exchange platform and an opportunity for the participants to learn about the traditions and practices of Thai traditional New Year, a Thai renowned dessert like “luk chup” and Thai Traditional Dance for this festive occasion through the workshops organised during the event.

The event consists a number of cultural activities to demonstrate on how Thais celebrate their traditional New Year, including “Rod Nam Dam Hua” or water pouring ceremony to pay respect to the elderly, a showcase on Thai culinary by Thai chef as well as cultural performances and workshop by professional dancers from Thailand.
Additionally, there are booths from Thai companies to showcase their products namely ThaiCham, Thai Smile, CP Group, Central Retail Group, ThaiBev, CAC, SCG Home, CASEAN and MM Mega Market to introduce their products and services.

On this occasion, Ambassador of Thailand to Vietnam Nikorndej Balankura and the co-host, Dr. Pham Lan Dung, President of Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, have the honour to welcome over 100 participants including Ambassadors and Spouses from ASEAN Embassies, students from leading universities, such as Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, Hanoi University, University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS-VNU), University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH-VNU) and FPT University, representatives from Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations, Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Association and media agencies.

After a long pause due to COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand is now ready to welcome all visitors to experience the wonderful Songkran festival. "We are pleased to once again extend our warm welcome to tourists around the world back to Thailand with our signature warm hospitality", said the Thai Ambassador.
