Celebrating the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, 1945 the streets of Hanoi Capital have been glitteringly decorated with flags, flowers, banners, posters and hoardings.

Seventy-nine years ago on August 19, 1945, under the leadership of the Vietnam Communist Party and President Hochiminh, the Vietnamese people simultaneously rose up in a general uprising, and seized power from the Japanese and the French.

Two weeks later on September 2, in a grand mass meeting at Ba Dinh Square, President Hochiminh read the Declaration of Independence, solemnly declaring before the entire world the birth of the Vietnam Democratic Republic (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam).

Every year Hanoi residents of all walks of life, especially the young, take part in a range of activities to mark the special occasion and express their pride and enhance their sense of responsibility to build the capital city and the nation to become more prosperous, beautiful and happy.

During this occasion this year, nearly 20 events of celebration will be held in the city such as the “Aodai connects tourism with Hanoi Heritage” programme, free water-puppet performances at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel; fireworks at the Tuan Chau Marine Park and a free double-decker bus ride for all.
