Hanoi and New South Wales, Australia have much room for cooperation

WVR - Hanoi always pioneers in promoting cooperation with states and cities of Australia in large, and New South Wales state in particular.

Hanoi’s delegation led by Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong had a visit to New Zealand and Australia from October 6 to October 15. On October 11, they had a working session with Katie Knight, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Investment New South Wales, Department of Enterprise, Investment and Trade, and other leaders of state specialized agencies. Vietnamese Consul General in New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland Nguyen Dang Thang also attended the meeting.

This visit by Hanoi’s delegation to Australia happen during the time both countries have any activities to celebrate 50 years of establishing diplomatic relation (1973-2023). In the working session with New South Wales, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong highly appreciated the outstanding development of Vietnam-Australia relations over the past half century, in becoming close and strong regional neighborly relations. Vietnam’s capital always pioneers in promoting cooperation with Australian states and cities, including New South Wales.

The Deputy Secretary also hope the two localities will strengthen cooperation in investment, tourism, education and cultural exchange, as well as cooperate with other cities in Australia within the Creative City Network of UNESCO. Following that, both sides will promote online and direct exchanges between cultural agencies to exchange experiences on developing cultural and film industries; promoting creativity in urban development, digital innovation in literature, supporting and developing young writers of the two countries.

Appreciate Hanoi’s potential, Kate Knight said that the state of New South Wales and the capital of Vietnam still have a lot of room as well as opportunities for cooperation, and need to continue to promote in the near future especially in the context of Australian government just announced the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 to strengthen trade links with the regions and develop partnership with Asian countries including Vietnam

New South Wales state also have opened a representative office in Vietnam and is ready to welcome Vietnamese businesses in general, and Hanoi’s businesses in particular to participate in the state’s economic development, especially in investment in digital transformation and innovation.

Leaders of the two localities has agreed to promote effective cooperation in the coming time. Specifically, increasing exchange of high-level delegations, business delegation, investors and university from the state of New South Wales to Hanoi to explore new investment cooperation and opportunities.

The two sides also need to promote cooperation in education, cooperate in short-term educational training for managers and teachers of Hanoi in Australia; coordinate to organize educational seminars, competition about Australian education and culture in English in Hanoi; create favorable condition for Australian investors in Hanoi in the process of establishing and implementing educational activities supporting Hanoi schools in building and implementing cooperation programs with Australian partners , for example the New South Wales English program. Promoting cooperation in education is a sustainable foundation for development and cooperation between the two localities.

In the afternoon of the same day, Hanoi’s delegations have the working session with Sydney City Council of New South Wales state. Deputy Mayor Robert Kok said the two localities shared many similarities in areas and population. Sydney is a leading city in the field of digital transformation and innovation.

The city government of Sydney has built a comprehensive strategy with vision to 2030-2050, setting a goal of making Sydney a creative city by 2030 with 10 strategic directions to create a smart and inclusive city in all field like learning, major events and festivals, cultural spaces and regional development, cultural and tourism programs.

Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong proposed that Sydney city send expert delegations to exchange and share experiences with Hanoi city in building and developing a creative city and organizing major festivals to attracts domestic and foreign tourists to the capital during festivals.

During the visit, the delegations have visited and worked with Macquarie University, RMIT University and Google Education.

At the sessions, the Deputy Secretary has shared the development orientation of Hanoi’s educational system in both scale and quality, of promoting digital transformation in education, accessing advanced education of education in regional and international countries, contributing to improving people's knowledge, training human resources, fostering talents; building a learning society, creating a premise for developing a knowledge economy, practically serving the requirements of industrialization and modernization in Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general.

Hanoi’s leader has asked to continue to research and propose specific cooperation possibilities between educational institutions of New South Wales state, in training and fostering the city’s official and civil servants, expanding joint training programs between universities of the two localities.

On October 13, the delegation attended and cut ribbon to open the Hanoi-Vietnam" pavilion at the Home Exhibition, a major event in the furniture field in this Oceanic country. They also attended the Trade Connection Conference with Australian businesses, organized by the Department of Industry and Trade in coordination with Vietnam Trade in Australia, thereby providing opportunities for cooperation in production, business, connect input market between Hanoi and international businesses.

Within the visit, the delegation visited and worked with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Canberra and the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sydney.
