General Secretary To Lam warmly welcomed the Sultan of Brunei on his seventh visit to Vietnam, expressing confidence that this visit will further enhance the Vietnam-Brunei Comprehensive Partnership in a more substantive and effective manner.

The General Secretary highly appreciated Brunei's significant achievements in national development, especially its strong economic growth and social welfare, with its human development index ranked among the "very high" globally. He wished Brunei success in achieving its national development vision by 2035.

Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah expressed his pleasure in returning to Vietnam since 2019 and his desire to further promote the Comprehensive Partnership between Brunei and Vietnam. The Sultan also extended his deepest condolences to the families affected by recent floods and landslides.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive development of the Vietnam-Brunei Comprehensive Partnership in recent times: regular high-level and other exchanges; bilateral trade turnover in 2024 increased by 165% compared to 2023, achieving the target of 500 million USD by 2025 ahead of schedule; and positive results in cooperation in defense-security, fisheries, oil and gas, and education.

Discussing future cooperation directions, the two leaders agreed to strengthen political trust; promote and facilitate trade and investment activities, enhance connectivity, and support businesses in exchanging information and seeking partners. They also aim to effectively exploit cooperation potential in areas such as agriculture, fisheries, Halal, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

The General Secretary suggested promoting maritime cooperation, including combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and addressing climate change.

The Sultan emphasized Vietnam as an important trade partner and expressed a desire to boost cooperation in agriculture and food, Halal, and encouraged Vietnamese businesses to expand cooperation in the oil and gas sector, and enhance people-to-people exchanges through scholarship and training programs.

Both sides committed to continued coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially ASEAN and the United Nations; to strengthen solidarity and unity, and maintain ASEAN's central role in the region; and to promote cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the South China Sea issue.

On this occasion, the Sultan of Brunei extended a cordial invitation to General Secretary To Lam to visit Brunei at a convenient time. The General Secretary thanked and gladly accepted the invitation.
