At the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and his spouse, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam, along with his spouse and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, will pay a state visit to China from April 14-17.

In recent times, the overall Vietnam-China relationship has maintained a positive development, achieving significant results. In 2025, amidst the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2025), high-level strategic exchanges were enhanced, with visits between key leaders occurring at an unprecedented frequency.

Since the beginning of 2026, both sides have continued high-level exchanges and contacts in various flexible forms. Key leaders of the two countries exchanged congratulatory messages on the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2026). On January 19, 2026, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China sent a congratulatory message to 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. On January 23, 2026, General Secretary, President of China Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to General Secretary To Lam on being re-elected. On January 26, 2026, General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary, President of China Xi Jinping held a phone conversation following the successful conclusion of Vietnam's 14th National Party Congress.

Economic, trade, investment, and tourism cooperation generally yielded positive results. In 2025, China was Vietnam's largest trading partner; Vietnam was China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and the fourth largest worldwide by country (after the US, Republic of Korea, and Japan), with Vietnam-China trade reaching 256.4 billion USD, up 24.8%; Vietnam exported 70.4 billion USD, up 14.8%; imported 186 billion USD, up 29%. In the first two months of 2026, China remained Vietnam's largest trading partner with bilateral trade at 66.7 billion USD, up 30.2%; Vietnam exported 17.4 billion USD, up 32.5%; imported 49.3 billion USD, up 29.4%.

Regarding investment, in 2025, China ranked second in total registered capital with 5.96 billion USD (after Singapore), up 33.4%. In the first two months of 2026, China ranked third in total registered capital with 807.46 million USD (after Singapore and Republic of Korea), down 9.6%. In terms of tourism, in 2025, Vietnam welcomed 5.28 million Chinese visitors, up 41.3%, accounting for 25% of total international arrivals to Vietnam, ranking first in total international arrivals. In the first two months of 2026, Vietnam welcomed approximately 922,582 Chinese tourists, accounting for about 19.7% of total international arrivals to Vietnam, ranking second in total international arrivals (after Republic of Korea).
