General Secretary, President To Lam pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, President Ho Chi Minh in New Delhi

WVR - On May 6 morning, following the official welcoming ceremony, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam and his entourage laid a wreath in tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the late leader's memorial site in New Delhi, as part of their ongoing state visit to India.

As part of the State visit to the Republic of India, on the morning of May 6, immediately after the official welcoming ceremony, General Secretary, President To Lam and members of the high-level Vietnamese delegation laid a wreath in memory of Mahatma Gandhi at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in New Delhi.

Mr. Mahatma Gandhi (2/10/1869-30/1/1948) was a renowned political activist, honored as the Father of the Nation and a spiritual leader of the Indian people.

After laying the wreath in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, General Secretary, President To Lam emotionally wrote in the guestbook: “I and the high-level Vietnamese delegation are deeply moved and respectfully remember Mahatma Gandhi – the great leader, symbol of peace, national independence, and non-violence.

His life and career remain a shining example during the years of struggle for national independence in Asia specifically and worldwide in general.

The thoughts and will of Mahatma Gandhi will always be an endless source of inspiration for the spirit of self-reliance for the Indian people, the Vietnamese people, and all of humanity.”

Subsequently, General Secretary, President To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation laid a wreath in memory of President Ho Chi Minh at the Ho Chi Minh Statue, located in G20 Park in New Delhi.

The Ho Chi Minh Statue is a work of special political-diplomatic significance, vividly reflecting the close relationship between the leaders and people of the two countries, as well as the special affection of the Indian state and people for President Ho Chi Minh in particular and Vietnam in general.

The statue was personally crafted by sculptor Ram V. Sutar, one of India's leading sculptors, with numerous consultations and adjustments from relevant Vietnamese agencies.

The statue's viewpoint is oriented towards the two major cities of Vietnam, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
