Welcoming Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam always attaches great importance to and wishes to strengthen cooperation in all fields with Poland, a traditional partner and friend of Vietnam in Europe. The two sides should continue to coordinate to promote the exchange of high-level delegations, as well as between ministries, branches and localities, the Minister stressed.

Poland was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam on February 4, 1950. In an interview with the World and Vietnam Report, Ms. Justyna Pabian, Chargé d'Affaires of the Polish Embassy in Vietnam, said: "The most valuable asset in the diplomatic relations between Poland and Vietnam is the trust and heart-warming friendship, which has been developed and nurtured throughout the long history of 73 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations". And Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau's official visit to Vietnam is a concrete proof of that fact.

It is expected that Minister Zbigniew Rau will have meetings with Vietnamese leaders to discuss bilateral cooperation as well as global issues, thus enhancing political trust and mutual understanding, to promote and expand bilateral cooperation.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the two countries have supported each other with practical assistance, such as the shipments of masks from Vietnam to Poland and precious doses of COVID-19 vaccine donated from Warsaw to Hanoi, as well as support of Polish Government in organizing special flights for Vietnamese who had to evacuate from Ukraine.
In terms of economy and trade, Poland is currently Vietnam's number one trading partner in Central Eastern Europe, while Vietnam is Poland's 7th trade partner outside the European Union (EU). Vietnam's exports to Poland are computers, electronic products and components. machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts; textiles, seafood, rice, coffee, pepper, agricultural products, ect. On other side, Vietnam imports from Poland powdered milk, pharmaceuticals, equipment for the coal industry, shipbuilding, and metals, iron and steel scrap, ect. In 2022, two-way trade turnover reached 2,566 billion USD, of which Vietnam exports 2,291 billion USD and imports 375 million USD.

An important area in Vietnam-Poland relations is education - training cooperation. From the 1960s until the early 1990s, Poland trained over 4,000 students and scientific staff; over 3,500 skilled workers, mainly in coal and shipbuilding industries for Vietnam.

The two sides have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on diplomatic training and academic cooperation between the Polish Diplomatic Academy and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam. It will be a valuable, longstanding instrument enabling the diplomatic institutions from both countries to exchange expertise on training diplomats and learn from each other.

The Vietnamese community in Poland currently has about 25,000 people, contributing to the development of economic - trade relations between the two countries.
