At the invitation of Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn pays an official visit to Vietnam and co-chairs the 20th meeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technical Cooperation from March 20-22, 2023.

Welcoming Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the visit contributes to consolidating, strengthening and deepening the good neighbourly and friendly relationship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia

This official visit to Vietnam by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Prak Sokhonn was conducted after the two countries successfully coordinated to implement many practical activities in 2022 to celebrate the Vietnam-Cambodia, Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Year 2022, the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (June 24, 1967- 2022).
In the context that the Covid-19 pandemic has had many impacts on both Vietnam and Cambodia over the past 3 years, the 20th meeting of the Joint Committees will play a very important role, for the two sides to review and identify measures to promote bilateral relations. |
During the visit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Prak Sokhonn will have meetings with Vietnamese leaders, hold talks with Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, and co-chair the 20th meeting of the Vietnam - Cambodia Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technical cooperation.

The visit takes place at a time when the neighbourly and friendly relationship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia has developed strongly and yielded positive results. The two sides have maintained regular reciprocal visit exchanges to work out measures to foster bilateral cooperation.

At present Vietnam has 198 valid projects capitalised at US$2.97 billion in Cambodia, ranking first among Southeast Asian investors and fifth among global investor in the country.

The two sides have completed 84% of the workload of the land border marker planting project, and are now working on the remaining 16%.

In addition, bilateral cooperation in the fields of education-training, science-technology, tourism and people-to-people exchanges has been maintained and boosted.
The 20th meeting of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation is set to exchange orientations and measures to ramp up comprehensive and stable cooperation between the two countries. The two sides will sign the Minutes of the 20th meeting.
