The fight was arranged by a number of relevant Vietnamese agencies, the Vietnamese Embassies in both South Africa and Mozambique, along with relevant agencies of the host countries and South African Airways.
The majority of passengers on board the flight were minors under 18, pregnant women, the elderly, sick individuals suffering from underlying illnesses, tourists, guest workers with expired visas and labor contracts, in addition to students with no accommodation due to the closure of their dormitories.

In the context of imposed travel restrictions, the Vietnamese Embassies in both South Africa and Mozambique worked closely alongside local governments to assist the citizens with travel in various countries and to speed up necessary procedures before they boarded the plane.
As soon as the plane arrived at Noi Bai International Airport in Ha Noi, all passengers and crew members underwent medical examinations and were transferred to concentrated quarantine facilities in line with regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control.
Under Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s direction, more similar flights will be arranged to repatriate Vietnamese citizens stranded abroad depending on future developments of the pandemic, the quarantine capacity of Vietnamese localities, and demand among Vietnamese nationals abroad.
