Evaluating the current state of Vietnam’s diplomatic sector: Seminar

On the afternoon of May 23, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry's Office held a scientific seminar titled “Assessing the current state of the diplomatic sector”. The event drew the participation of numerous leaders from various departments, officials, public employees, and experts and researchers both within and outside the Ministry. The seminar was chaired by Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Chief of the Ministry’s Office.

This seminar is part of a sub-project under the Ministry-level Key Science and Technology Research Program entitled “Building a comprehensive and modern diplomatic sector in the new era.”

The seminar aimed to create an open academic forum for extensive discussion and to gather professional perspectives on the current domestic and international context. It sought to assess the status and results of efforts to develop the diplomatic sector and to propose orientations and solutions regarding organizational structure and resources to support its future development.

In his opening remarks, Chief of the Office Nguyen Hoai Nam emphasized the importance of the seminar in clarifying approaches, assessment methods, challenges, and obstacles, as well as factors affecting the diplomatic sector from an organizational perspective. He expressed his hope that the delegates would contribute their insights to make the seminar a practical and effective scientific exchange.

The seminar received and discussed eight presentations by reputable scholars and leaders of relevant departments, including Dr. Nguyen Hung Son, Acting Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam; Dr. Phan Dang Son, from the Institute of State Organizational Sciences and Labor under the Ministry of Home Affairs; Dr. Nguyen Hai Luu, Deputy Director General of the Department of Foreign Policy, and representatives from various units inside and outside the Ministry.

The presentations focused on two major thematic groups: (i) Theoretical and practical foundations for building the diplomatic sector; (ii) assessing the current situation and proposing solutions to develop a comprehensive and modern diplomatic sector.

The discussion session was vibrant, featuring many practical opinions and especially suggestions to enhance the effectiveness of external affairs and to shape the image of a professional, modern diplomatic sector in the new era.

In his closing remarks, Chief of the Office Nguyen Hoai Nam expressed sincere appreciation for the dedicated and responsible contributions of the delegates.

He affirmed that these valuable scientific and practical inputs would serve as an important foundation for the research team to complete the sub-project, thereby making a meaningful contribution to the process of building a comprehensive and modern diplomatic sector in the coming time.

Tại Hội thảo, các đại biểu cũng trao đổi, đóng góp ý kiến chuyên môn nhằm đánh giá thực trạng dựng ngành Ngoại giao, đồng thời đề xuất các phương hướng, giải pháp phát triển tổ chức bộ máy, nguồn lực phục vụ phát triển ngành.
