Vietnam always attaches importance to the relationship with Australia and regards it as the priority in the nation’s diplomatic policy, asserted Dung, highlighting the year-on-year increase of 19.3% in the bilateral trade value in 2018, reaching US$7.7 billion.

Currently, Australia has poured more than US$1.84 billion in 425 projects in Vietnam, ranking 19th among 128 foreign investors in the Southeast Asian nation. Vietnam has invested in 47 projects in Australia, worth US$255.8 million.

The Deputy PM spoke highly of the non-refundable Official Development Assistance (ODA)-sponsored by Australia for Vietnam, focusing on necessary infrastructure projects which have become the symbol in the two nations’ relations such as Cao Lanh Bridge and My Thuan Bridge.

He proposed the Australian enterprises seek for investment in areas of Vietnam’s demands such as agriculture, auxiliary industry, tourism and renewable energy.

Dung asked the Ambassador to promote annual meetings between the two sides’ senior leaders, localities and enterprises, especially the bilateral cooperative mechanisms in economics and trade.

The two countries should strive to upgrade the bilateral trade value to US$10 billion by 2020, he said.

The Vietnamese leader expressed thanks to Australia for advocating Vietnam at international forums, expecting Australia will enhance close coordination during the process Vietnam taking over the non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in 2020-2021 tenure and the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020.

Robyn Mudie asserted that many Australian investors are delight on the Vietnamese Government’s polices to create favorable investment and business environments, adding that she will do her utmost to accelerate cooperation in all spheres, particularly economics, trade and investment.
