WVR - On the afternoon of March 3, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung received First Vice President of the Greek Parliament Ioannis Plakiotakis, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from February 28 to March 5, 2026.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung welcomed and highly appreciated the significance of the visit, which includes numerous substantive and effective exchanges, contributing to strengthening and deepening the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always values its relationship with Greece and aspires to elevate bilateral cooperation to new heights, commensurate with the potential and strengths of both nations.

The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the Greek Parliament play a role in promoting the ratification and supervision of the implementation of agreements signed between the two countries in fields such as economy, tourism, and culture. He also agreed to enhance cooperation in maritime transport, port logistics, shipbuilding, renewable energy, agriculture, tourism, and to explore the possibility of opening direct flights to facilitate long-term business cooperation between the two countries.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung expressed gratitude to Greece for being one of the first EU member states to ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). He urged Greece to continue supporting and lobbying other EU member states to complete the ratification process soon, while also encouraging the European Commission (EC) to acknowledge Vietnam's efforts in combating IUU fishing, and to promptly lift the "yellow card" on Vietnam's seafood exports.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung also informed the Greek side about the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnam's comprehensive achievements in recent times, and the country's development goals for the upcoming period.

First Vice President of the Greek Parliament Ioannis Plakiotakis expressed gratitude for the warm and respectful reception by the Vietnamese side. He praised Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements and its increasingly active role on the international stage. He affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner for Greece in Southeast Asia and expressed confidence that his visit will contribute to promoting substantive and effective cooperation with Vietnam in areas where both sides have complementary strengths and needs.

Both sides agreed that bilateral cooperation is developing positively, particularly with stable growth in trade turnover, reaching 580 million USD by 2025. They affirmed that there is still much potential for cooperation and emphasized the need to increase exchanges at all levels through various channels to enhance political trust, seek opportunities, and promote cooperation across all fields. First Vice President Ioannis Plakiotakis affirmed that Greece hopes the EU will soon lift the IUU yellow card for Vietnam.

Amidst global fluctuations, the two leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern. They agreed that both countries share common values of peace and respect for international law. They committed to strengthening coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, advocating for the peaceful resolution of disputes, including those in the East Sea, based on international law, contributing to peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region and the world.
