Deputy FM Le Thi Thu Hang commends efforts of Vietnamese community in Malta

WVR - Continuing bilateral activities during her visit to Malta, on the afternoon of September 10, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang and the delegation from the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs met with the Vietnamese community.

Present at the meeting were Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy, concurrently accredited to Malta, Duong Hai Hung, and Embassy staff. In his remarks, Ambassador Duong Hai Hung noted that the relationship between Vietnam and Malta is improving significantly, with great potential for further cooperation.

Although the number of Vietnamese in Malta is not large compared to other expatriate communities, they possess many strengths and are growing rapidly. The embassy is always attentive and supportive of the Vietnamese community in Malta.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Association in Malta, Mr. Vo Khac Huy reported that although the Vietnamese population in Malta is small, they are highly educated, work in various fields, and remain fundamentally connected and oriented towards their homeland.

The Vietnamese Association in Malta, established in August 2022 with active support from the Embassy, especially Ambassador's attention, has organized numerous cultural promotion activities, leaving a positive impression on the local populace. These include the "Rendezvous with Vietnam in Malta" program in Valletta, "Spring Homeland 2023", and connecting the Vietnamese community in Malta with Radio 103 through the Malta Migration Committee...

The Vietnamese community in Malta expressed gratitude for recent policies from the Party and State for overseas Vietnamese, as well as the support and companionship of the embassy. They expressed a desire for more Vietnamese delegations to visit Malta to strengthen relations with the host country and to keep the community updated on domestic developments more frequently.

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang acknowledged and highly appreciated the dedication, efforts, and responsibility of the Vietnamese Association in Malta in supporting, connecting the community, and promoting Vietnamese culture in the host country.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that every overseas Vietnamese is a "cultural ambassador" spreading Vietnamese values, contributing to bringing the image of Vietnam and its people closer to the people of other countries.

Informing the community about the results of meetings with Maltese leaders, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang stated that the Maltese government values its relationship with Vietnam and responded positively to the delegation's request to care for and facilitate the stable integration of the Vietnamese community in Malta.

According to the Deputy Minister, the Vietnamese community in Malta has many favorable conditions to stabilize their lives and develop, especially as the Maltese government and people hold a positive view of Vietnam and its people.

She encouraged the community to engage in more communal activities, fostering solidarity, preserving and spreading traditional cultural identities and the Vietnamese language, while also making positive contributions to the socio-economic life of the host country.

Sharing with the community about major policies of the Party and State towards a new era for the nation, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that the Party and State always value and appreciate the positive contributions of overseas Vietnamese and consistently create favorable conditions for them to participate in the nation's building and development, especially contributions in intelligence, skills, technology, experience, and work discipline...

New policies and laws related to overseas Vietnamese, particularly the Nationality Law, Identity Law, Land Law, and Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation, are breakthroughs that meet the concerns and aspirations of the community while encouraging them to focus on the homeland.

On this occasion, the Deputy Minister invited the community to return to Vietnam to participate in events organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, such as the "Spring Homeland" program, the delegation of overseas Vietnamese attending the Hung Kings' Commemoration, visits to the Spratly Islands, summer camps for overseas youth, and training courses for Vietnamese language teachers...

Appreciating the achievements in supporting and mobilizing the community, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang also urged the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy to build on the positive results achieved, continue effectively implementing citizen protection and overseas Vietnamese affairs to ensure the community's peace of mind in living and working, and to thrive.

Malta is located near the southern part of Italy and just above Tunisia in the Mediterranean Sea, covering an area of over 316 km2 with a population of approximately 520,000 people.

Malta is one of the smallest countries in the world, but in recent years, it has become an attractive destination for investors, international students, and foreign workers, including those from Vietnam.
