Da Nang among top destinations in terms of tourism revenue

The international fireworks festival and professional and unique tourism products have contributed to Da Nang tourism having a "bumper" summer.

On weekends in June, during the Danang International Fireworks Festival - DIFF 2023, Da Nang International Airport is frequently crowded with tourists arriving and departing. The number of flights to the city can reach up to 150 flights/day (1.5 times more than usual). On the peak day of the final DIFF 2023, there were 161 flights to Da Nang.

During the nights of the Fireworks Festival, the city was busy like it was before Covid-19. The number of tourists increased, resulting in "bumpy" summer days for the service industry. Hotels and restaurants in the city are often operating at almost full capacity. Central roads are crowded and congested. My Khe Beach, Nguyen Tat Thanh, etc., are full of tourists every afternoon.

In the first six months of the year, the total number of tourists served by accommodation establishments was estimated at 3.5 million, an increase of 116.6 percent over the same period in 2022. International arrivals were estimated at 930,000, an increase of 11.3 times over the same period; domestic tourists were estimated at 2.578 million arrivals, an increase of 67. per cent over the same period in 2022. During the Danang International Fireworks Festival alone, the number of tourists was estimated at more than 942,000, an increase of 29 per cent compared to the fireworks festival in 2019 - the peak season for Da Nang tourism.

What is the reason why Da Nang is always in the top destinations in terms of tourism revenue | VIETNAM ECONOMIC NEWS
The number of tourists to Da Nang increased dramatically during the fireworks festival. The airport is always crowded.

As a result, Da Nang's tourism revenue in the first six months of the year was extremely positive at VND10.6 trillion, maintaining its position as one of Vietnam's top ten leading destinations in terms of tourism revenue. Da Nang is gradually regaining its glory and reaffirming its brand as Vietnam's top-worth-visiting city.

A high-class tourism ecosystem is the key to success.

This year, the International Fireworks Festival is not the only reason for the return of Da Nang's excitement. The city has also organized a series of events, exhibitions, and festivals, such as the Asian Film Festival, the Ba Na WOW Summer Festival series, the Danang Electronic Carnival at East Sea Park; check-in space at WOW Da Nang photo exhibition at the foot of Dragon Bridge, and so on, creating a unique attraction for the city of the Han River.

Along with that, over the past 15 years, Da Nang has consistently added to its ecosystem of tourism products with "specialties" that are even famous around the world in the field of amusement/entertainment and resort tourism. These are the Golden Bridge - the "brand face" of Da Nang tourism, the Sun World Ba Na Hills resort, the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, the Asia Park, and so on.

It is this ecosystem that has helped the city gradually assert its position as the most experienced destination in the Central region, bringing in tourism revenue that is consistently among the top in the country - something no one could have imagined 15 years ago when Da Nang was just a transit station with poor tourism products.

Thanks to the variety of products, and the increase in events and experiences, the length of stay and spending of tourists visiting Da Nang has increased significantly in recent years. If the number of days spent by tourists in 2007 was only 1.67 days for international tourists and 1.62 days for domestic tourists. Average spending was VND470,000 per domestic visitor per day, international visitors spent USD50 per person per day. In 2019, international tourists stayed in Da Nang for an average of 3.6 nights; while domestic visitors stayed for three nights; the average expenditure of an international tourist in Da Nang is over VND5.32 million, while that of a domestic visitor is VND2.75 million.

Unique and novel tourism products have also contributed to the city's tourism industry constantly improving. According to statistics, from 2009 to 2018, the number of tourists to Da Nang increased 463 times. The outstanding development of Da Nang tourism in 2019 was reflected in 8.6 million tourists, of which international tourists were estimated at 3.5 million, bringing in a total estimated revenue of VND30.9 trillion. The city also strives to welcome 13-14 million tourists by 2030.

Mr. Tan Van Vuong, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism, said that the introduction of many new products and services and the organization of national and international events have helped the city's tourism to recover and develop.

“Large enterprises like Sun Group have launched numerous unique tourism products, creating an ecosystem of highly competitive tourism products. In particular, the Danang International Fireworks Festival 2023 is a brand event of the city, which has promoted and attracted a large number of tourists. This festival is a push to spread and promote the city's tourism in order for it to thrive in the future," said Mr. Vuong.

With the enthusiasm of the city as well as private enterprises investing to increase tourism products and experiences, many experts predict that Da Nang will soon reappear on the rankings of the "busiest" and most popular destinations in the region and around the world.
