Da Lat is the capital city of Lam Dong province, Vietnam. Da Lat is the City of Flowers and honeymooners, with lovely French villas, the fresh air, the beautiful waterfalls and gorgeous lakes sits in a lush and green valley of postcard beauty.

Da Lat is called by many names since it is one of the most romantic places in the world for honeymoon, namely City of thousands of pine trees with the specific sights are pine trees with twisting roads and tree marigold, cherry blossom in the winter; City of eternal spring since Spring is eternal and “unique season” in Da Lat; Little Paris (“Le Petit Paris” in French) due to its French architecture villas and its replica of the Eiffel Tower built by the Telephone Company that looks like it fell into a pool of red and white colour; and first and foremost, names that sticks with this romantic place for life long are The City of Love, The City of Poetry, The Green City…

The city of thousands of flowers is an ideal place for wellness and retreat tourism. It is famous for an interesting “no”: no traffic light system, no police stationed at traffic junctions, no cyclos carrying tourists, no air conditioning, no staying up late, etc.

Da Lat Weather

Often referred to as the city of eternal spring, Da Lat’s temperate climate is a highlight of every visit. It is an amazing land which visitors can visit all year round. Different from Ha Noi, which has 4 seasons, Da Lat only has 2 seasons, which are rainy - sunny seasons. Actually, everyone can feel the weather with all 4 seasons in the same day in Da Lat, chilly as spring in the early morning, warm at noon, cool in the evening, and cold at night.

When to visit Da Lat

The best time to visit Da Lat is from October to March. This time is the dry season, the weather is cool and sunny. From the end of October, the weather starts decreasing. It is also the time when the city puts on a brilliant coat of various flowers, such as white canola flowers (blooming from October to December), pink grass (from November to December) or yellow wild sunflowers (blooming from November to January).

From January to March is the most beautiful time in Da Lat. All the cherry blossoms bloom along the lively roads and cover all around Ho Xuan Huong Lake in Da Lat. What a great moment for a walk with a beloved one.

From February to April, visitors will have the opportunity to admire the fields of purple lavender flowers or unique and different purple phoenix flowers. Aftertaste of a peaceful Da Lat trip will be more enjoyable with sudden rain in the middle of summer days. The torrential rains in August will add to the attractiveness of the waterfalls as they are given the strength to rush to flow, white foam. Prenn Waterfall, Pongour Waterfall, Dambri Waterfall... powerfully sounds like a love song all day and night.

Da Lat Transport

Lien Khuong Airport is located just 30km south of Da Lat City-centre, and connects to major hubs from north to south. Coaches will shuttle travellers from Ho Chi Minh City, while neighbouring Mui Ne and Nha Trang are just a few hours away by car or shuttle van. Adventurous travellers will enjoy touring by motorbike. Popular routes pass through Elephant Falls, K’ho villages, or Tuyen Lam Lake. The town itself is easy to navigate on foot or by taxi.

Where to stay in Da Lat

As the "holy land" of travel lovers, Da Lat has never made visitors wonder about where to stay. This city has countless hotels, from budget, mid-range 2-3 stars, to resorts. However, the “specialty” of Da Lat is a wide range of homestays and hostels with a variety of styles. Homestay is the top priority of young or group travellers.

Famous tourist attractions in Da Lat

Da Lat inherited the pristine beauty from mother nature and the natural advantages of the climate as well as the great creativity of the people. Da Lat is also famous for its lake, waterfalls and pine forests. The beautiful waterfalls in Da Lat are Datanla, Prenn, or near to Da Lat such as Pongour waterfall and Elephant waterfall. And the gorgeous lakes in Da Lat are Xuan Huong Lake, Tuyen Lam Lake. These lakes are located right in the city, the name is poetic as the romantic lake scene, and each lake goes along with an ancient legend.

If lucky enough, visitors coming in months around the year's end can witness 5 special seasons in Da Lat: ripe persimmon trees (From around August, persimmons begin to bear green fruit and last until the end of November, to the beginning of December), wild sunflower forest (from October to November, when the last rains begin to fade), pink grass hill (at the end of November to December), cherry apricot (from December to early February, depending on the year due to the weather), cloud and dew (only early birds can witness this magical nature phenomenon at the end of the year).

Lam Vien Square

Here lies the most famous giant wild sunflower house designed with special and different coloured glass. Its surroundings will surely give visitors beautiful and perfect pictures to post on their social media. Inside it is a unique and impressive cafe and bar.

Da Lat Chicken Church

The symbol of the city is one of the largest churches in the city, also known as Da Lat Cathedral, and it is located on Tran Phu Street. Chicken Church is one of the Roman architectural works in the European style, with an overall cross-shaped 65m long, 14m wide, and the highest is a 47m high bell tower. From this height, people find it easy to view every part of the city when they stand on the bell tower. The main door of the church is set towards Lang Biang Mountain.

Domaine de Marie Church

Another famous church of the foggy city is the Domaine de Marie Church. It is one of the three biggest churches in the flower city and is also known as Mai Anh Church (because it is located on a hill with many cherry blossoms – Mai Anh hill) it is a cluster of architectural works, including the chapel and two rows of Filles de la charité de saint Vincent de Paule monasteries – a long-standing religious congregation in Vietnam since 1928. A very special feature of Domaine de Marie Church is that there is no bell tower, and the church’s lighting system is made of stained glass frames. In addition, visitors can see a statue of Miraculous Medal with 3m height, weighing 1 ton standing on the globe, depicted in the shape of a Vietnamese woman, designed by French architect Jonchere.

Domaine de Marie Dalat is the working and living place of many Daughters of Charity. These priestesses knit cold sweaters and sell them to visitors.

The Valley of Love

The trip to the city of love will not be completed if visitors miss the visit to the Valley of Love. The Valley of Love is located in the Northeast, which is 6 km from Dalat city. Poetic scenery with surrounding hillsides, green pine forests as well as sightseeing areas, large flower gardens decorated with eye-catching views are those highlights of the Valley. Travellers can easily follow the natural tracks and staircase all around the valley to visit and admire the gorgeous flower gates and statues to truly appreciate the scenery here. From the hill, visitors can also see the Langbiang peaks standing out vividly against the blue sky, or continue their adventure to find Paradise Hill, another ideal destination which is surrounded by beautiful lakes.

Lang Biang

Langbiang Mountain is 2,167 metre, the highest mountain near Da Lat centre, also called the roof of Da Lat Plateau (Lam Vien Plateau). For hikers, this is a great day trip and a half-day trip for those who just want to enjoy the beautiful view from the peak. The mountain is best known for its amazing nature and spectacular views over the entire Da Lat area, with forests, rivers and ethnic villages. It is also home to some of the oldest ethnic minority groups from the Central Highlands. A visit to a local village will give visitors an insight into their unique culture.

ZooDoo Da Lat

This place is such a heaven for those who love animals. The model of a cafe combined with an open zoo is very unique. ZooDoo's main house is surrounded by fresh and quiet pine forest. It will be an ideal place for families with young children. Animals that are both gentle and fun, like camels, sheep, ponies, kangaroos, etc. Mainly imported from Australia will melt any hearts coming here to visit. Zoodoo Da Lat is located about 40km from the city centre.

Da Lat Railway Station

Da Lat Railway Station is situated at no.1, Quang Trung Street, Ward 10 in the heart of Da Lat City. It is the oldest railway and the finest feat of French colonial engineering in Vietnam, drawing great tourists’ attention. This is a perfect place for photography. During the visit to the train station, tourists should not skip a train trip from Da Lat to Trai Mat station within about 30 minutes.

Da Lat Flower Park

The park sits atop of Cu Hill, north of Xuan Huong Lake, only 2 kilometres from Da Lat City-centre. The park was founded in 1966 featuring more than 300 types of flowers blooming all year round. There are plenty of flower species on display in different gardens such as a giant cactus garden, orchid fields and rose gardens. Significantly, there is a huge park entrance decorated with arc-shaped flower arrangements of hundreds of flower species. Another highlight of the tourist venue is a small lake standing in the middle of the park where tourists can enjoy a trip peddling on swan – shaped boats.

Da Lat Giant Pumpkin Garden

There are many pumpkin gardens in Da Lat. However, while mentioning the most unique pumpkin garden, Giant Pumpkin Garden of Mr. Phan, is a place that attracts countless visitors. With three types of giant squash weighing up to 100kg. In addition to giant pumpkins, Mr. Phan's garden also grows many other seasonal vegetables such as kale, broccoli, especially black and yellow tomatoes. The garden only opens for 2 and half hours for visiting.

What to eat in Da Lat

Da Lat pizza (Grilled rice paper)

It’s often known as “Vietnamese-style pizza” or “Da Lat pizza,” and it can warm you up in the chilly weather of Da Lat.

The rice paper is grilled on charcoal until crunchy. Then, different ingredients such as quail eggs, scallions, pork rinds, and dried shrimp are added. Visitors can be adventurous and try it at any street corner of Da Lat.

Bread shumai (Banh Mi Xiu Mai)

Bánh Mì Xíu Mại (Bread shumai) is a delicious Da Lat food for breakfast. From small alley street vendors to luxurious restaurants, visitors can easily spot this tasty dish. The meatball is made from lean meat, finely ground, and shaped into small cubes. The dish is served with a pinch of cilantro and pork rind and served with Banh mi.

When eating, people often cut bread into small pieces, dipping it in the cup of broth, adding a bit of satay to create spiciness. Visitors can enjoy this dish in Hoang Dieu Street.

Can Cake

Can cake is made from glutinous rice flour, added quail eggs or duck egg, and then scorched and baked in a clay mould.

Grilled Pork rolls (Nem Nuong)

This dish uses the shoulder part of pork and then is grilled on charcoal. Visitors can eat it by rolling the Nem with rice paper and dipping it in the dipping sauce.

Chicken Stuffed Pancake (Banh uot ga)

The soft wet cake is served with marinated chicken pieces, and diners try it with delicious sauce and vegetables.

Stuffed snail with meat

This dish is a favourite snack of both locals and tourists.

Snails are cleaned, stuffed with pureed pork, and then steamed. The dish has a long-lasting fragrance, mixed with the flavour of lemongrass and sweet and sour sauce.

Avocado ice cream

For avocado fans, don’t miss a chance to try avocado ice cream in Da Lat!

Enjoying delicious avocado ice cream in the cold weather of Da Lat is an interesting experience. This dish is made from rich, aromatic avocado and condensed milk.

Chicken hotpot with basil leaves

A chicken, a plate of fresh noodles, some mushrooms, and a bowl of basil leaves. Da Lat green vegetables are also what make hotpot dishes more attractive and tasty.
