Australia delivered an initial tranche of emergency relief supplies which arrived in Hanoi on September, 11.

Typhoon Yagi is the most powerful storm to hit northern Vietnam in over three decades. Ongoing heavy rainfall in the mountainous regions has led to severe flooding and landslides causing widespread destruction and loss of life.

Australia’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Andrew Goledzinowski said “Australia is here to help Vietnam in any way we can. We are pleased we’ve been able to quickly mobilise support to the most impacted areas and are working closely with the Government of Vietnam and to ensure support reaches affected families and communities. We know there’s a long road ahead and we stand shoulder to shoulder with Vietnam at this difficult time”.

Australia’s assistance will include services delivered through the Australian Humanitarian Partnership in concert with local organisations targeting the most affected communities and the most vulnerable populations. Our contribution will ensure women, children and people with disabilities can access lifesaving assistance. These supplies include essential provisions for families such as shelter and hygiene kits.

Australia expresses its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam as they mourn those who perished or are missing as a result of the natural disaster. We commend the Government of Vietnam for its leadership in coordinating response efforts across the impacted area and stand ready to assist Vietnam in its journey to recovery and rebuilding.
