ASEAN flag-hoisting ceremony held to mark bloc's 55th founding anniversary
An ASEAN flag-hoisting ceremony took place at the headquarter of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the morning of August 8 to mark the Association's 55th founding anniversary.

The ASEAN flag has four colours of blue, red, white and yellow, representing the main colours of the flags of all the ASEAN members. The stalks of padi in the centre of the Emblem represent the dream of ASEAN’s Founding Fathers for an ASEAN comprising all the countries in Southeast Asia, bound together in friendship and solidarity. In his remarks, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son emphasized that 55 years ago, in 1967, the birth of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations laid the ground to realize the dream of a region of lasting peace and stability, sustainable growth, and inclusive social progress. "At this moment, we can be truly proud of what have been achieved toward realizing that noble goal, meeting the aspirations of nearly 700 million Southeast Asian people," the Minister said.
