An exposure of the misrepresentations of human rights in Viet Nam

Most recently, while the whole world was reeling from the Covid-19 pandemic and the economy was in recession, Viet Nam had successfully controlled the disease out of the community.

Human Rights Watch’s (HRW) recent report on the human rights in Viet Nam is revealed to be exaggerated, ridiculous and unfounded words. Such unjustified and biased phrases such as “increasing oppression,” “severe degradation,” “devastation,” etc. are used indiscriminately, imposing impartial comments on human rights situation in Viet Nam.

In fact, there are old allegations that seem to appear every year baselessly and exaggeratedly in the so-called global human rights situation report. Even in a report published in mid-January 2020, HRW said, “2019 is a cruel year for basic freedoms in Viet Nam.” Those freedoms are referred to freedom of speech, freedom of association and freedom of religion.

However, the real case is shown that it is solely HRW’s distortion and slander. Rarely has a country where people have such freedom of speech, Internet, association, expression and religion as in Viet Nam. Any citizen is free to share about anything, both in real life and in cyberspace. The areas are unlimited, from asking various questions to reflecting and stating their opinions on political, economic or society issues of the country. Any citizen is also encouraged to join and establish associations, from gardening, raising birds, doing business to freely joining different religions.

It is worth mentioning that, over the years, Viet Nam’s position on the world political map has been significantly strengthened with many important positions and responsibilities, actively and effectively acting and establishing for not only the country itself, but also for the region and the world.

In particular, the socio-economy has made strong developments, constantly improved and guaranteed people’s living conditions and experiences; the Millennium Development Goals, typically hunger eradication and poverty reduction, are rapidly and humanely accomplished, making global friends admire.

Most recently, while the whole world was reeling from the Covid-19 pandemic and the economy was in recession, Viet Nam had successfully controlled the disease out of the community. The country has effectively both ensured the goal of socio-economic growth and strived to complete the “dual” task with impressive results. Immediately after the social distancing order was lifted, the economy resumed in a “new normal” state and mostly achieved the set-up goal which is not to leave anyone behind.

Obviously, this is the dream of many countries around the world, including the U.S. – where HRW’s headquarters are located.

It is essential to understand that, basically, the political institutions and laws of one country cannot be applied rigidly in another sovereign country. Also, the people of every country must respect and obey the laws of that country, meaning violating the laws equals destroying the country.

Thus, property destruction or impersonal, distorted and inciting speeches against the Party and the State are clearly an act of law violation that needs to be condemned strictly and prevented in time. Obeying the law is an evidence of those who are fully aware of freedom. And only those who consciously control their behaviors have true freedom.

It is obvious that freedom is a human right, but not in the case of arbitrary and anarchic freedom. Freedom is only guaranteed when people are well aware of objective rules and act properly in accordance with the law – the covenant and agreement of freedom of collective, community and society.

Once again, this is certain that HRW’s report on human rights situations in Viet Nam is exaggerated, ridiculous, unfounded and unresponsive words. The report not only doesn’t illustrate accurately tireless efforts of the Vietnamese government to fight for human rights, but also exposes HRW’s malicious and illogical side when misrepresents and slanders about a sovereign nation where people are protected and guaranteed all legitimate rights, in accordance with international law in general, and the International Convention on Human Rights in particular.
