80 years of Vietnamese diplomacy: Celebration ceremony to honour the continuing journey of dedication

WVR - On August 25, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will solemnly hold ceremony to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of Vietnam's diplomatic sector (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025) and receive the First-Class Labour Order.

The ceremony is expected to be attended and addressed by Party General Secretary To Lam; leaders and representatives from Party and State agencies; former leaders and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs across different periods; numerous delegates from various departments, ministries, diplomatic corps, domestic and international friends, along with reporters from media agencies.

The program includes activities such as the photo exhibition "80 Years of Diplomatic Achievements", celebratory performances, and a documentary screening about the 80-year journey of diplomacy. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son will deliver a commemorative speech at the event. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is honoured to receive the First-Class Labour Order, a testament to the recognition from the Party, State, and people for the Ministry's contributions over the years.

Ahead of the celebration, a series of meaningful and diverse activities have been carried out across the entire sector. Highlights include a traditional gathering to honour generations of diplomatic cadre; the opening of the exhibition "Vietnamese Diplomacy in the Ho Chi Minh Era" featuring rare documents unveiled for the first time; awarding collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements; activities focusing on visits to historic sites, thematic sessions, media interactions, and review of overseas Vietnamese affairs.

Additionally, a host of vibrant movements and events have been organized, such as seminars and discussions reflecting on the sector's glorious 80-year journey; competitions to explore and create songs about the Diplomatic Service; sports events, races, cultural and sports exchanges; the "Children Love the Diplomatic Service" summer camp; and numerous commemorative publications being compiled and published.

Notably, Vietnamese Representative Missions abroad have actively participated with practical activities, contributing to spreading the spirit of the anniversary, affirming pride and determination to continue the sector's glorious tradition in the new phase.

Taking place as the entire Party, people, and army prepare to celebrate the 80th National Day on September 2nd – marking the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the event highlights the historical significance and role of the sector, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs being one of the first ministries of the revolutionary government led by President Ho Chi Minh.

In an interview with the press, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said that throughout its 80-year journey of development, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnam's diplomacy has overcome numerous difficulties and challenges, continuously promoting its glorious tradition, serving the nation and people, and contributing to the great victories in the nation's revolutionary cause.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, the world is at a turning point, facing unpredictable and complex developments, as well as profound shifts in politics, security, economy, science, and military affairs. Domestically, the upcoming phase is crucial, a pivotal moment in achieving the development goals set for 2030, with a vision toward 2045, ushering the nation into a new era.

After nearly 40 years of Doi moi (Renewal), Vietnam has achieved significant, historically meaningful accomplishments. With new strengths and positions, Vietnam's diplomacy is expected to continue playing a pioneering role, contributing practically to the country's development and integration. As General Secretary To Lam emphasized, in the era of the nation's rise, Vietnam's diplomacy must reach new heights, fulfilling its glorious mission, deserving to be the vanguard of Vietnam's revolution.

In the context of profound global changes, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister noted that this is also a strategic phase for Vietnam's revolution, where diplomacy plays a role in creating a peaceful environment, mobilizing resources for development, contributing to the nation's entry into a powerful era, achieving the goals for the 100th anniversary of the Party's founding and the 100th anniversary of the country's founding.

The 80th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic sector is not only an occasion to reflect on its glorious tradition and honour the contributions of generations of diplomatic cadre but also a source of motivation and encouragement for the entire sector to continue showcasing resilience, intelligence, unity, and creativity, dedicating to the cause of building and safeguarding the nation, confidently stepping into a new phase of development.
