50 years of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations: Visual art as a bridge of friendship

WVR - In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations (September 23, 1975 – September 23, 2025), the German Embassy in Vietnam has launched a unique art project to turn the outer wall of the German Embassy into an open-air canvas.

The art works shall exemplify diverse perspectives and views on the multifaceted dimension of the relation between Vietnam an Germany.

The project also aims to foster cultural exchange and showcase the vibrant artistic talent of young Vietnamese artists.

The submitted artworks should reflect key aspects of the Vietnam-Germany friendship, such as express hopes and dreams for the future of bilateral relations, personal encounters or experiences related to Germany, cultural convergences and differences, historical connections between the two nations, or personal interpretations and cultural narratives in the context of the bilateral relations between Vietnam and Germany.

Participants are required to submit a brief self-introduction, a preliminary sketch of their artwork, and a list of necessary materials. Applications must be sent via email to kultbot@gmail.com befor March 10, 2025.

Once artists receive received a formal invitation to the art event from the Embassy, they may begin working on their pieces.

The live painting session will take place on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the German Embassy, 27 Tran Phu Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.

This live event aims to provide artists with the opportunity to finalize the art project on-site and connect with other fellow artists friends, representatives of the Contemporary Arts Centre, Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts Studies (VICAS) and staff of the German embassy during a buffet lunch.

Following the event, all art works will be exhibited for 3 months along the outer wall of the German Embassy and showcased on the anniversary website where they will be made available for purchase.

- This call for applications is open to Vietnamese visual media artists and Vietnamese art students.

- Applications can be submitted by individuals as well as groups.

- The German Embassy in Vietnam will provide canvases according to the measurements below.

- The Embassy will cover expenses for materials needed, such as Painting colors, graffiti cans, painting brushes, etc.

- Travel allowances for artists from other provinces cannot be covered by the Embassy.

- Selection & Announcement: Approximately end of March, 2025.
