Workshop strengthens Vietnam’s organizational capacity and coordination for APEC 2027

The workshop was attended by Member of the Party Central Committee and Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Head of the APEC 2027 National Secretariat Nguyen Minh Vu; Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the United States in Vietnam Courtney Beale; Executive Director of the APEC International Secretariat Eduardo Pedrosa; speakers and experts from economies that have previously hosted APEC, along with nearly 100 representatives from ministries, sectors, sub-committees under the National Committee for APEC 2027, and localities involved in preparing for APEC Vietnam 2027.
Following the first workshop in April, this event focused on organization, management, and coordination, with participation from ministries, sectors, APEC 2027 sub-committees, and localities, alongside the APEC International Secretariat and partners.

In his opening remarks, Permanent Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu emphasised that Vietnam will host APEC 2027 as the country enters a new era of development, establishing a growth model based on productivity, quality, efficiency, and competitiveness, aiming to become a high-income developed nation by 2045. Concurrently, Vietnam is implementing a comprehensive foreign policy at a new level, steadfastly pursuing independence, self-reliance, resilience, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development; diversifying and multilateralizing foreign relations; and actively integrating into the international community comprehensively, deeply, and effectively. In this process, APEC and the Asia-Pacific region continue to hold a significant position.
The Deputy Minister affirmed that hosting APEC 2027 is a key foreign policy task for Vietnam from now until 2030, requiring preparation and organization commensurate with the event's significance and stature. Thorough preparation and professional organization during APEC 2027 will demonstrate the host's responsibility and capability, contributing to building trust and facilitating dialogue and cooperation among members, aiming for practical outcomes for people and businesses.

Welcoming the proactive and active involvement of localities, the Deputy Foreign Minister emphasised the importance of leveraging the role and responsibility of each locality while ensuring unity in coordination with central agencies for the success of APEC 2027. He urged the APEC 2027 National Secretariat, sub-committees, ministries, sectors, and localities to continue refining coordination mechanisms, clearly assigning responsibilities, and ensuring timely handling and decision-making on arising issues. Each APEC event will be a valuable opportunity to promote the economic potential, people, culture, and unique features of each locality, thereby introducing a dynamic, rich-in-identity Vietnam that is increasingly integrating deeply with the region and the world.

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the United States in Vietnam Courtney Beale affirmed that Vietnam is one of the United States' most important partners in the Indo-Pacific region, with an increasingly prominent role and position in the region and on the international stage.
The Deputy Chief of Mission highlighted that Vietnam's successful hosting of APEC in 2006 and 2017 demonstrated its organizational, coordination, and leadership capabilities and expressed confidence that APEC Vietnam 2027 is an opportunity for Vietnam to showcase its vision and proactive role, fostering practical cooperation for the region.
Ms. Courtney Beale affirmed that the United States will continue to closely coordinate with Vietnam, stand ready to support capacity building, skills enhancement, and share organizational experiences in the lead-up to a successful and effective APEC 2027.

Speaking at the workshop, Executive Director of the APEC International Secretariat Eduardo Pedrosa emphasised that in the context of rapidly changing regional and international economic environments, APEC continues to play an important role in creating a space for dialogue, sharing experiences, and enhancing capacity among economies, thereby promoting practical cooperation for the region's common goals.
He highly appreciated Vietnam's positive and proactive preparation, noting that Vietnam is among the few members to have hosted APEC three times. The Executive Director affirmed that the APEC Secretariat will continue to work closely with Vietnam in preparing and implementing APEC 2027, aiming for an effective and substantive agenda that leaves a mark and contributes practically to the region's cooperation process.

During the two-day workshop, delegates will engage with the APEC International Secretariat and experts from economies that have previously hosted APEC, discussing experiences in organization, management, coordination among agencies, and handling arising situations. The discussion sessions also provide an opportunity for localities to clarify preparation requirements, propose support, and leverage economic, cultural, and tourism strengths, contributing to the successful organization of APEC 2027, promoting Vietnam's image, and boosting local development.

| Earlier that day, Member of the Party Central Committee and Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu met with Ms. Courtney Beale, Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, representatives of the US-APEC RISE program, and international experts and speakers, expressing thanks for the coordination and support from partners and hoping for their continued collaboration with Vietnam, contributing to the success of APEC 2027.
