As one of the female ambassadors who took on the task at the time of the global outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, I was very surprised by the new context. However, I was quickly determined that I had to adapt in time to the new living conditions and the more challenging nature of my job.

Observing and monitoring the response to the pandemic, I realized that the government and people of every country, including Viet Nam, have chosen to promote digital application and digital connectivity with the aim of adapting to the new context of the pandemic, pushing economic recovery and improving social life.

Understanding the needs and importance of digital transformation for Viet Nam, we have put our top priorities on connecting areas of cooperation with Finnish and Estonian companies and organizations.

Gender equality has become a national pride and successful policy of Finland. When women speak out, they are heard not for the fact that they are female but for their ideas.

When it comes to women and soft power in diplomacy, people usually and immediately associate it with the soft power that is brought from the gender. However, I found out that in modern diplomacy, soft power coming from gender has only a limited influence because of the fact that diplomacy is often related to nation’s interests. It is obvious that nation’s interests cannot be given up for any reasons. The gender’s soft power through clothing and appearance is only a fleeting effect, we cannot rely on it to achieve a substantive commitment.

Soft power in diplomacy is a thorough understanding of the nation's position and the need for cooperation. It is clear that the nation’s successful development, the right policies of the Government, the solidarity and determination of each citizen are the greatest soft powers for diplomats working abroad.

With Vietnamese female diplomats as well as other female diplomats in the world, our primary goal is to protect the interests of the nation. To achieve this goal, we promote the strengths of female diplomats, apply soft power, combining with passion and meticulousness in work to persistently pursue issues to the end.
