Driving forces for further development
Vinh Long province is located in the downstream of Mekong River, between two other rivers (Tien river and Hau river) and in the center of the Mekong Delta region. Adjacent to other 7 provinces in the region, the province is 130 kilometers away from Ho Chi Minh City and 34 kilometers away from Can Tho city. With a total area of 1,520 sq. kilometers, a population of 1.05 million people with 5 national routes passing through, Vinh Long can easily connect with international airports and ports of Ho Chi Minh City as well as Can Tho city.
Regionally, Vinh Long is also known for its competitive advantages in agricultural that had been confirmed with major, well-established agricultural products. Due to its favorable climate and fertilized land, Vinh Long annually exports approximately 817.900 tons of rice, 235,000 tons of sweet potatoes, along with high-value, special fruits such as rose apple, Tam Binh king mandarin, mango, Nam Roi Binh Minh grapefruit, Sau Ri durian… Aquaculture economy also serves as a spearhead sector, with a total area of cultivation up to 2,485 hectares that yield up to 134,000 tons of products (mainly catfish and red tilapia) per year.
Moreover, Vinh Long also has many traditional craft villages associated with well-known form of tourism such as gardenand-river tourism, “Travelling amidst the green delta” tourism program, “homestay” tourism and community tourism. The unique feature of such programs lies in its combination of relaxing and exploring historical, cultural heritage such as Long Ho citadel, Van Thanh temple, the mausoleum of Dieu Bat’s Marshal Nguyen Van Ton…Tourists coming to Vinh Long will also be able to know more about the origin, career and contributions to the country of Vinh Long’s famous figures such as former Chairman of the Council of State Pham Hung, Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet, Professor Tran Dai Nghia through visiting the Memorial site in Vinh Long.

Over the years, Vinh Long had made significant achievements and slowly affirmed its standing across socio-economic sectors. GRDP in 2021 was 34,305.3 billion VND, equaled to 98.95% of 2020’s. GRDP per capita amounted up to 55.49 million VND (2,310 USD)/year. The province’s economic structure in 2021 is shifting toward a good direction. Agricultural production is growing moderately. Production values of agricultural – forestry – fishery was 12,398 billion VND, increased by 1.76% compared to 2020 and over 0,62% to the designated goal. Total exports amounted to 491.7 million USD. External activities, investment promotion has continued to increase; manufacturing, business environment and competitiveness has been improving.
Social security policies, specifically those on assisting people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, have been implemented timely and effectively; activities on paying tributes and taking care of those with honors, along with policies on assisting poor and nearpoverty households have been well implemented. Healthcare and education quality have been improving with upgraded infrastructure. Cultural and sport activities have positively contributed to the people’s quality of lives. Vinh Long’s infrastructures continued to gradually improve, with many signature buildings of the province, creating thorough trade connections between Vinh Long and neighboring provinces…
Vinh Long’s achievements have been lauded by the Government and the people, further contribute to the driving force of the province to further rise and develop across fields and sectors in accordance to the national development.
Clearing the nest to welcome the “eagle”
Recently, the development and investment direction of Vinh Long 2021-2025 period is as follows: (i) striving to make breakthrough in economic structural transition, shifting structure of production in each fields, sectors; developing hi-tech agricultural on larger production scale; promoting stronger development in industrial sectors to become a driving force for economic development, specifically food processing industries; utilizing advantages to develop tourism;
(ii) promoting internal forces, attracting investments to gradually modernize infrastructure, focusing on urban, traffic, electricity, IT and media infrastructures; associate developing agriculture and tourism in relations with the general developments of other provinces in the Mekong Delta region and the Greater Mekong Subregion; developing cities into nucleus of sub-areas in the province;
(iii) focusing on developing high-quality human resources; improving labors’ necessary skills, providing vocational training for workers as well as educating on IT and business management; creating favorable environment to attract high-quality human resources to local area;
(iv) associating socio-economic development with combating climate changes and rising sea levels in accordance with each fields, sectors’ features, while maintaining their effectiveness and sustainable developments. At last, it is important to closely coordinate economic development with social development, building a strong political system, maintaining social order, local security and national defense.
Vinh Long also places heavy emphasis on creating favorable investment environment for investors and always also considers business as an important force in socioeconomic developments. Recently, Vinh Long is inviting investment to projects such as: (1) Mang Thit contemporary heritage project in My An, My Phuoc, Nhon Phu, Hoa Tinh of Mang Thit district, with a total area of 3,000 hectares; (2) Mekong Delta Agriculture Museum combining with agricultural tourism in cluster 1 and Rach Truc hamlet, Vung Liem town with a total area of 10.2 hectares; (3) Tan Hanh Hi-tech Agricultural zone in Tan Hung, Tan Binh, Tan Hiep, Tan Thuan hamlet, Tan Hanh village, Long Ho district with a total area of 716 hectares; (4) Tam Binh Hi-tech Agricultural zone in An Phang, Binh Ninh hamlet, Ngai Tu village, Tam Binh district with a total area of 1,613 hectares; (5) Phu Thanh – Luc Si Thanh Hi-tech Agricultural zone with eco-tourism in Phu Loi, Phu Long, Phu Xuan, Phu Hung, Phu Sung hamlet, Phu Thanh village, Tra On district; An Thanh, My Thanh, Long Hung, Kinh Dao hamlet, Luc Si Thanh village, Tra On district with a total area of 500 hectares; (6) Thien My Hi-tech Agricultural zone at My Hung, My Pho, My Hoa, My Trung hamlet, Thien My village, Tra On district, with a total area of 200 hectares.
