Vietnam, UAE Defence Deputy Ministers hold talks, promote defence industry cooperation
WVR - On the morning of June 30, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, Deputy Minister of National Defence, held talks with Lieutenant General Ibrahim Nasser Mohammed Al Alawi, Deputy Minister of Defence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during his visit to Vietnam.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang emphasised that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1993, the relationship between Vietnam and the UAE has been continuously nurtured and strengthened on the basis of friendship, equality, mutual respect, and cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of both countries. Based on the good relations between the two governments and countries, Vietnam-UAE defense cooperation has made positive progress in recent times, in line with the framework of a Comprehensive Partnership.
During recent meetings and contacts, senior leaders of the two countries have reached important common understandings, ready to enhance bilateral defense cooperation, including cooperation in the defense industry; actively supporting each other in major events organized by each side.

On this occasion, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang expresses thanks for the attention and support of the UAE Ministry of Defence and related agencies for the representative office of the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) in the UAE; hopes that in the future, the UAE Ministry of Defence will continue to pay attention and support to ensure the office operates effectively, truly becoming a bridge to promote Vietnam-UAE cooperation in fields where both sides have needs.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang is confident that the contents agreed upon at this meeting will usher in a new phase of development in the defence relations between the two countries.

Emphasizing that cooperation between the two Defence Ministries still holds much potential, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang proposes that in the future, both sides focus on promoting cooperation in various fields to soon achieve new developments in bilateral defense cooperation, in line with the Vietnam-UAE Comprehensive Partnership.
Both sides need to focus on exchanging delegations at all levels, especially high-level; researching the establishment of Dialogue and Consultation mechanisms; establishing permanent Defence Attaché Offices in each country; defence industry; United Nations peacekeeping; military medicine, logistics; non-traditional security; cooperation in training high-quality human resources; continuing to support each other at multilateral forums and international multilateral activities organized by each side...

The Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam is ready to receive officers and officials from the UAE Ministry of Defence to participate in the International Defence Officials Course and UAE military students to study Vietnamese at academies and schools.
On this occasion, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang respectfully invites the leadership of the UAE Ministry of Defence and defence industry corporations and companies to attend the 3rd Vietnam International Defence Exhibition in December 2026.

During the talks, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Nasser Mohammed Al Alawi emphasised that this visit to Vietnam is an opportunity for both sides to expand cooperation in the field of defense in the near future.
Highly appreciating the Vietnam-UAE Comprehensive Partnership, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Nasser Mohammed Al Alawi noted that cooperation between the two countries has made significant strides, achieving many positive results.
Affirming that bilateral cooperation still holds much potential for advancement, especially in the field of defence, the UAE Deputy Minister of Defence hopes that in the future, both sides will coordinate and promote the agreed-upon cooperation contents; research new cooperation areas based on the needs and interests of each side, contributing to the overall Vietnam-UAE Comprehensive Partnership, for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.
At the conclusion of the talks, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two Defence Ministries on defence industry cooperation.
