The airline will report passengers showing signs of abnormal health to authorities, while conducting the disinfection work as previously announced.

Immediately after each aircraft lands at the airport apron, sterilization will be carried out for the entire passenger cabin, cockpit and flight attendants’ preparation area.

Disinfection focus will be given to the positions with many manual contacts such as luggage compartment locks, seat armrests and toilet door handles.

Other positions, such as seat surface, carpet, floor or anywhere the passenger can touch, are also handled. Disinfection Spraying CH2200, a kind of liquid disinfectant, has been approved by the aircraft manufacturers on the planes, as it does not affect the health of passengers.

To reduce the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, Vietnam Airlines will conduct body temperature screening among all passengers departing from Europe before boarding, while providing masks for passengers to use throughout the flight time.

Passengers are encouraged to stabilize their seats and limit movement and communication during the flight.

For domestic flights, the national flag carrier will conduct disinfectant spray shortly after each flight, regarding the positions with regular manual contacts. After the flights, the used headsets will be disinfected with the ChloramineB solution.

In addition, equipment serving passengers at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat Airports are regularly cleaned with disinfectants.

Vietnam Airlines always gives top priority to ensuring safety of its passengers and employees. The airline is continuously monitoring the development of the COVID-19 epidemic to proactively take appropriate response measures.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) reported that airports in the country served nearly 8.1 million passengers in February, down 11.6% from the same period last year.

They included 2.4 million foreigners and 5.7 million domestic passengers, down 29.8 % and 0.75 %, respectively

Also last month, Vietnamese airlines transported 3.7 million passengers, falling 13.7% year on year. The number of foreign and domestic passengers respectively decreased 39.5% and 0.7%.

The CAAV attributed the double-digit fall in the Vietnamese aviation market after many years of strong growth to the direct impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.
