In winning Asia's Leading Regional Airport 2020 award, the airport fought off competition from four tough rivals to secure the prestigious title. Other competitors in the category include Bangalore International Airport in India, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport in China, along with Chubu Centrair and Fukuoka International airports in Japan.
Meanwhile, in Asia's Leading Airport Lounge 2020 award, the VIP/CIP Lounge of Van Don International Airport also defeated five significant opponents from throughout Asia, namely the Changi Lounge of Jewel Changi Airport, the GVK Lounge International by TFS Performa of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, No. 77 China Eastern Plaza Premium Lounge of Shanghai Pudong, and the Centurion® Lounge at Hong Kong International.
Officially inaugurated in December 2018, the US$324 million airport is located approximately 50 km from Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO-recognised World Heritage Site.
It is one of world’s leading five airports in terms of service quality during the first quarter, according to a survey released in May after being conducted by the Airport Performance Measurement Program (APMP).
Originally established back in 1993, the WTA aims to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence throughout all key sectors of the travel and hospitality industry. In addition, the annual awards has risen in prominence to become globally recognised as the ultimate hallmark of excellence in the industry, even being dubbed as “the Oscars of Travel and Tourism” by the Wall Street Journal.
