For Ms. Tong Lien Anh, a representative of Laulau Learning Finland in Vietnam, Marie Curie School holds a special place in her heart. This is where her life took a profound turn, instilling trust as the guiding principle of her journey in education and beyond.
Many have heard the heartwarming story of the bond between teacher Nguyen Xuan Khang, principal of Marie Curie School, and his student, Tong Lien Anh. Reflecting on her transformative journey, Ms. Lien Anh shared:
“The unwavering trust my teacher placed in me-defying rigid rules and conventions-gave me the strength to overcome countless challenges and push my boundaries. That trust became my foundation and a source of inspiration, driving me to follow in his footsteps and dedicate my life to education”.
Ms. Lien Anh’s experiences made her particularly drawn to the newly published book "In teachers we trust", released by TIMES ahead of Vietnam’s Teachers’ Day. She expressed:
“The title alone compelled me to read it. Authors Timothy Walker and Pasi Sahlberg affirm that all teachers deserve to be trusted as professionals. Trust is the cornerstone of building a world-class education system”.

With years of experience in education, Ms. Lien Anh has gained a deep understanding of global education systems, particularly Finland’s. Known for empowering teachers and achieving exceptional outcomes, Finland consistently ranks at the top in the PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) rankings. She believes Vietnam’s education system can learn valuable lessons from Finland, where trust forms the bedrock of success.
“A world-class education begins with trust”, she emphasized. This belief is rooted in her personal journey and is echoed in countless global stories and studies.
Recently, during the 8th Session of the 15th National Assembly, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son presented the draft Law on Teachers. He highlighted Article 61 of Vietnam’s 2013 Constitution, which underscores:
“Developing education is the foremost national policy, aimed at raising intellectual standards, nurturing talent, and advancing human resources”.
Teaching is undoubtedly a challenging profession, yet it presents a unique opportunity to fulfill the critical mission of developing the nation’s human capital. Teachers must adapt to educational trends and create meaningful impacts. Dr. Hoang Anh Duc, CEO of the Sky-line education system, shared:

“In Finland, trust is not just a slogan-it is a living reality embedded in every aspect of education. Teachers are entrusted with designing curricula, making critical decisions for their students, and collaborating with colleagues and parents, free from excessive bureaucracy or rigid controls. This trust not only elevates the teaching profession but also drives outstanding outcomes for students”, he said.
For Vietnamese educators, school leaders, and parents, "In teachers we trust" provides invaluable lessons. It resonates deeply with the challenges and aspirations facing Vietnam’s education system, encouraging reflection on how a culture of trust can be cultivated in schools nationwide.
