The 'Denmark in Your Eyes' 2024 contest: Green planet from children's perspective

WVR - Hundreds of Vietnamese students made an amazing spectacle when concurrently putting their green ideas on paintings at the launch of the “Denmark in Your Eyes” 2024 painting contest in Nguyen Sieu school (Hanoi) on September 25, 2024.

Attending the launch ceremony were Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Nicolai Prytz, representatives from the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam-Denmark Friendship Association, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Kim Dong Publishing House, and Thieu Nien Tien Phong newspaper.

The highlight of the launch ceremony was over 200 students from Nguyen Sieu School and Nguyen Viet Xuan Primary School coming together to express their green ideas through paintings.

Under the theme ‘Green Initiatives’, the contest this year is to encourage school children to learn more about environmental and climate challenges as well as to share their initiatives, thoughts and visions for how to protect our environment and natural resources.

Contestants are invited to unfold their imagination and bring their green ideas on biodiversity, energy efficiency, green energy, reduction of CO2 emissions, green habits, zero plastics, etc. onto paper.

The contest is part of the 53rd celebration of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Denmark (1971-2024).

At the launch ceremony, Danish Ambassador Nicolai Prytz expressed his excitement as this year’s contest has received an enthusiastic response from the “green warriors.”

“I believe that this is an engaging platform for Vietnamese students to voice and share their thoughts, concerns, hopes and ideas on how to nurture and protect our planet.

I cannot wait to see their bold, creative and inspirational ideas on how we can make our planet a green and liveable home for all,” the Ambassador shared.

According to Mr. Prytz, 2024 marks a year of the two countries establishing the Green Strategic Partnership, making the contest profoundly meaningful as a bridge for Vietnam-Denmark friendship.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy, Principal of Nguyen Sieu School, called on the students of Nguyen Sieu School in particular and Vietnamese contestants in general to spread the message of environmental protection, encouraging each generation to be increasingly responsible for their surroundings.

With the aim of promoting green education and integrating environmental protection messages into the curriculum, Nguyen Sieu School has supported the "Denmark in Your Eyes" painting contest since its inception.

The students of Nguyen Sieu School were very enthusiastic about freely expressing their ideas for a green planet. Sharing with The World and Vietnam Report, student Pham Tri An mentioned that his painting calls for people to reduce emissions into the environment and hopes to become a green energy scientist in the future.

For student To Vu Khanh Van, through today’s painting activity, she hopes to convey the message of a waste-free world and contribute her efforts to protect the green planet. She also wishes to become a bridge between Vietnam and Denmark in the future, learning more about environmental protection experiences from the beautiful European country.

The "Denmark in Your Eyes" painting contest is an annual event co-hosted by the Vietnam-Denmark Friendship Association and the Danish Embassy in Vietnam. Each year, the contest is launched with a new theme, always focusing on environmental issues and the green agenda.

The contest is open to all Vietnamese students, from primary to secondary school. The deadline for submission is December 20, 2024. The organizers will announce and award the outstanding contestants at the award ceremony at the end of the 2024-2025 school year in Hanoi.

This year’s jury includes esteemed artists from Kim Dong Publishing House, Thieu Nien Tien Phong newspaper, Nhi Dong newspaper, along with representatives from the Vietnam-Denmark Friendship Association and the Danish Embassy in Vietnam.
