Switzerland stands in solidarity with Vietnamese people after typhoon Yagi

Typhoon Yagi has ravaged the northern part of Vietnam with torrential rains and violent winds, causing widespread flooding and massive landslides that have isolated entire communities. The disaster has resulted in numerous fatalities, decimated homes, and shattered livelihoods. The resilience of the Vietnamese people is deeply moving, and Switzerland stands in solidarity with them.
Press release on September 13 of the Swiss Embassy in Vietnam emphasized:
As a mountainous country exposed to the threats of landslides, flash floods, and extreme weather, Switzerland has been through similar immense hardship. In compassion toward what the people of the Northern mountainous region are going through, Switzerland would like to join hands to help ease their pain and support the recovery efforts.
Through the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit, Switzerland will allocate CHF1 million to the operation and channeling its expertise and resources into the heart of the response.
A team of eight experienced specialists in water and sanitation, emergency shelter, and disaster risk reduction is being deployed to provide support to Vietnamese authorities and those affected.
Switzerland’s relief efforts are also being bolstered by the provision of essential supplies, including 300 family tents and water distribution systems capable of serving 10,000 people. In collaboration with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), these much-needed resources are being rapidly delivered to the most affected areas, providing immediate relief to those in desperate need.
Switzerland is also a significant donor to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies' Disaster Response Emergency Fund (IFRC-DREF), which is playing a crucial role in addressing the unfolding humanitarian crisis.
