Spokesperson: Chinese geological survey vessels leave Vietnamese waters

China’s geological survey vessel group Haiyang Dizhi 8 have stopped their operation and left Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

Spokesperson Hang announced that at Thursday’s press briefing in response to reporters’ queries regarding the latest illegal activities of the Chinese geological survey vessel group in Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf .

Ms. Hang said that the vessel group on August 7 stopped their operation and left the Vietnamese waters which were defined by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982 UNCLOS).

Vietnamese relevant agencies are keeping a close watch on the situation, she added.

Over the past time, Viet Nam has expressed opinions and deployed measures at all levels and in various forms in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UNCLOS.

Viet Nam asks countries to respect her sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction in line with international law and stands ready to discuss with relevant countries to resolve divergences via dialogues, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability and development in the East Sea and to promotion of friendly relations and cooperation among countries, Hang said.
