Sinh Ton island, crashing the blue wave
|
Dawn on Sinh Ton Island. |
Being a natural land island, lying on a coral shelf in Truong Sa archipelago, Sinh Ton is among three communes and towns of Truong Sa island district, Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam. In addition to naval soldiers, there are households living on the island. Beside military establishments, there are also civil and cultural ones such as primary schools, cultural houses, clinics, national and international hydrometeorological stations. The island is surrounded by a solid seawall and has a ship lock to protect fishermen from storms. |
|
Moreover, a system of wind and solar power, underground tanks to store fresh water collected from the rains has been built on the island. For spiritual cultural needs, Sinh Ton pagoda was built in the traditional style of one compartment, two wings with a curved roof, sword heads and elaborately crafted statues. |

Cause the island is far from the mainland and with harsh climate, everybody will think that all structures on it are degraded and damaged. However, as soon as setting foot on the island without following the navy soldiers, you will be surprisingly lost in a resort, with rows of large, healthy, green trees all over the island, clear blue water with flocks of fish roam around, the ship lock looks like a beautiful 5-star infinity pool in a Caribbean resort. |

Each structure on the island is planned very scientifically and meticulously. In order to green the island, besides arable land transferred from supply ships, it takes a lot of effort from navy soldiers and people on the island to join hands and renovate. |
The ground on Sinh Ton Island, consisting mainly of sand and coral, suitable for brackish water plants and weeds, is now covered by rows of large trees to shade the sun and protect against waves, mixed with green vegetable gardens all over the island. By raising pigs and chickens on their own, people on Sinh Ton Island have become somewhat self-sufficient in valuable nutrition resources. By Lim Dim |
